Once had a really great easter party where we legally roasted a pig and illegally distilled liquor. Never in my life have I had a cleaner buzz. When I got home the next day I wrestled with myself whether I should tell my mother about it. But eventually I elected to tell her because I had such a good time.

When I mentioned my reservations for telling her about distilling liquor she shot me an incredulous look and just said: “Dude, have you forgotten that I’m Norwegian?”

In Norway alcohol is very expensive so basically everyone has distilled liquor at some point in their life.

Is this one of those “1/37th of me is Norwegian” stories from the US based on 23andme results?

Nah, it’s a German “my mother was literally born and raised in Norway” story.

When I moved to another city I even discovered that me and even my kids are technically Norwegian as well as German. At least according to the German authorities. I wanted to see if we could get a Norwegian passport but didn’t have the time yet.

Nice. Could be useful if any of you are interested in living/studying in Norway. Since its still not EU, status of how easy that is can change. Also it is a pretty country.

There’s a reason every school has those stupid security fences now and it’s not because students where having a bit of harmless fun after dark.

My mom cried when she found out I tried mushrooms when I was 16.

My mother who has had two long term boyfriends I know about, the guy before my dad who was a Coke dealer, and my dad who went to jail for selling drugs. She met my dad because she was trying to find mushrooms and he sold them.

    She cried.

Possibly she thought she had gone down a bad path in life, regretted it, and was worried you would go down the same path?

I obviously don’t know her, so I can’t say if that’s the case, but I have seen that happen before. Mainly in movies.

They are. This was like 15 years ago. Also it was fine back then, nothing actually bad happened except my mother way overreacted about me trying a psychedelic once.

Maybe she was afraid to see you walk the same path. ( Not that mushrooms are dangerous, but dating a coke dealer isn’t ideal)
