Whether he’s being truthful is the question, but those conditions should be absolutely unacceptable, no matter who’s in there. When the state takes responsibility for housing inmates, they need to do it right. It should be clean, they should be treated humanely (insofar that’s possible when you’re keeping people in cells) and they should be kept healthy.
I see in this thread a lot of people whose gut reaction is to be happy that a piece of shit is being treated like this, but you guys do realize that this treatment is not just limited to Tate, right? Do we really want a society where this shit is accepted, or in this case even praised? It degrades all of us.

Given how much he was lying about conditions previously, nobody should be feeling elated yet. But on the bright side, by taking the stand in his extradition bail hearing he hurt his chances in any future trials, especially any he testifies in.
I don’t like him. But prisons should be a place to put people with some dignity. The punishment is taking away their freedom.

I wouldn’t automatically believe him either. I have no idea what prisoners in the US can really expect but at the minimum prisons are required to maintain livable conditions, so that means reasonable temperature, and access to proper sanitation, although not necessarily in the cell itself.
I can totally believe the cell doesn’t have access to hot water, due to the obvious safety risk of giving problem prisoners access to hot water, but if that’s the case he will absolutely have access to public showers, and being the amazing alpha male that he is, I’m sure he has no problem at all with using communal facilities.
He’s just trying to get some sympathy because he knows that if he ends up getting deported, he’s screwed.

At least part of the reason he is being kept separate is because he’s not actually in prison, technically he’s been held pending extradition so it’s more like jail, that just happens to be in a prison.
It seems he was arrested on charges of sex trafficking minors and rape. That’s usually something inmates in prison can skin you alive for.
I don’t approve that, but that’s kind of an open secret about prison culture. Well, maybe not skinning alive specifically, but murder and torture - yes.

Oh yeah he’s living in third world poverty conditions, and yet somehow has access to Twitter to moan about it. Something seems off.
I suspect what is actually happening is that he’s in protective custody, because everyone wants to stab him either because they hate him because even criminals have standards, or because they reckon stabbing the alpha male will make them super duper extra alpha male++. If he were put in general population he’d probably be dead within 24 hours. I don’t want him to get stabbed and die, I want him to live for a really long time in a really small prison cell.
I see what you’re saying but let’s assume he’s not lying (because we have no reason to assume he would lie on the internet). Those conditions are barbaric. We shouldn’t be subjecting people to that. We don’t get to do awful things to him because he was caught being awful to others. That solves nothing.
He made a very reasonable request. He wants to be in gen pop with the others. An Eden of culture and comfort. Totally free to swallow his own teeth in a roach-free environment.

Maybe, just maybe he’s at risk around other inmates, 'cause you know: even most inmates are people who made mistakes but are not total POS, and they wouldn’t treat him nicely.
Any high profile inmate is going to be given “special treatment” as you said anyone in gen pop is going to want to make a name for themselves. Mabey they won’t care who he is or mabey he can put a gang together quickly for protection (doubt). Most prisoners aren’t going to Accept his hard man persona and would see him as a rich person ripe for extortion.
That said he is milking a systems that has been cronicly underfunded and hasn’t kept pace with most studies with prisoners wellbeing. I doubt they are as bad as he says but complaining about not having hot water seems a bit low on his issues right now.
