  • God this is relatable.

I’m not really hard core /c/fuckcars but god damn car people act fucking entitled.

They act as though you’re using their road at their sufferance - like how dare you be an obstacle that they may need to move around.

Then they park wherever they please, often across footpaths and bike ways.

Then they leave their vehicle and dodder around blocking paths completely oblivious to their surroundings.

There’s absolutely no concept of sharing these areas with different types of vehicles.

The book of Enoch often features in nutty ancient aliens content. Extra terrestrial beings and hand held devices and so on.

It’s important context for the canonical bible. Imagine you find a bunch of scrolls in urns in a cave and it’s basically an anthology of short stories from the star wars realm. You cut out the ones that just seem too crazy and the ones that contradict others, and then call the rest your special nutty history.

  • I don’t understand the question really?

I discovered I had a chronic illness when my wife was pregnant with twins, our first (and last) children.

It was tough. Being able to care for my partner and kids is a fundamental part of my identity (like many people). At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to be around to see my kids born, but things settled into a rhythm and now 4 years later my condition is “stable”.

Like many illnesses, mine is heavily dependent on how well I care for myself: diet, exercise, lifestyle. However, these things are a question of time, so they compete with the objectives of just being a good dad and spending time with your kids, and with having a career and building financial security.

Before having a family I didn’t really understand “having time”. Rather than time it’s more like energy, or “cognitive power” or spoons or whatever. You only get so much each day and you burn through it being a good dad, going to work, being a partner, and so on. Basically, money, family, and health, are competing objectives.

Basically, the only option is to do everything you can to do all of the things as best you can. It’s hard.

With all of that said, I don’t understand the question. It sounds kind of judgey if I’m honest. You don’t know what’s going on in someone else’s life, or house, or head.

  • This feels like the kind of narrative that OP is asking about. Everything that you’ve said sounds kind of sane and plausible, but it’s not really borne out by the reality.

I think a realistic case for that is that the AI tools that come out in the next few years will be good enough to do a fair amount of white-collar work

That’s just not what I’ve seen. I’d love to be able to automate the work of my white-collar team, but everything that we have seen thus far just seems incapable of providing any significant improvement. Software providers in our industry have implemented some gen AI tools, and even the sales reps for those providers are very wary of them. They’ve been able to reliably automate some elements of jobs, but it’s an incremental improvement over the previous automation and it didn’t consume a significant amount of time anyway.

There’s absolutely no evidence that gen AI will have a significant impact on my white-collar industry. In fact, the evidence presently available indicates that this generation of AI does not have the capability to impact our industry.

other types of AI are already enabling robotic automation of factories and in the near-ish future might make self-driving truck fleets practical.

This is really the same story. Factories have been being automated since the industrial revolution. Self driving tech has been a year away for the last 10 years.
