I just finished setting up slskd (soulseek daemon for automation) and integrating it with with lidarr. That’s the first step in my journey to drop my dependency on Spotify. Next step is downloading a ton of music!

I’m looking forward to trying out some music clients on both Android and Linux that support self hosted content and will possibly replace jellyfin if there’s a better fit. I will also need a scrobbler for discovery, but haven’t looked into that yet.

      “Scrobbler” can’t be a real thing 😭

Hope whatever you are doing goes well though. I still just download my youtube music playlist every once in a while and put it on my hard drive in a folder called “music” and that’s all the organisation i do lmao

You’ve possibly heard of Last.fm. It tracks your listening habits and builds a taste profile so that it can provide you with recommendations. It also predates Spotify and most premium music streaming services.

The plugin I’m using for Lidarr can also download from YouTube music. So far, Soulseek has worked well however, and provides me with lossless (flac) files.

I just called the warehouse. General Megathreads are on back order. Apparently there is some type of supply shortage and they don’t have enough bytes going to the factory to keep up with demand. Its hexbear’s fault because they have like 10 megathreads every week.

It’s crazy to think about the change central europe went through these past summers. We had breathable air, real rain at least twice a week.

We get lucky if it drizzles 5min twice a month, but you only smell the dust that has been lifted from the ground.

It rained for five minutes today. It wasn’t even rain just some drops. Probably evaporated before it went into the ground. Next ten days no rain either and multiple 30+ degree days.

And because our rivers come from inland and more central Europe your problems also come to us again lol. All the rivers are dried up.

Class is the ontological driver of Identity inequality. You cannot end inequality between ethnicities, cultures, genders, sexualities, religions, etc, without first confronting Classism.

We do need to be aware of identity power dynamics within our organizations so as to not perpetuate those inequalities but we should not be investing energy battling the bourgeoisie on their chosen field.

Most people who invoke the phrase identity politics like to claim that they’re against people saying things like “you can’t speak on that because you’re not _____”, or “listen to _____ voices” (uncritically and ignoring their class backgrounds), but then will happily allow people to smuggle in transphobia, homophobia and racism in under the same shibboleth and barely lift a finger to refute them.

“identity politics” can mean a few different things. But overall, these are not separate things under capitalism. Capitalism creates, for example, racial categories by which to designate a particular subclass of human in a given society, one that can be hyperexploited, mistreated, and scapegoated for problems, driving a false consciousness. And that racial oppression is a real, existing thing that takes on its own life and forms, stoked or suppressed as needed for the liberal order. Saying, “stop talking about racial oppression so much” ignores an extremely important material reality of capitalist society, really an essential aspect, and the point of doing a class analysis is to explain how we can come together for mutual liberation from these oppressions. For example, the liberation of women was essential to most socialist revolutions, the oppression of women also being intrinsically tied to capitalist oppression, typically to make them marginalized unpaid workers whose role is the reproduction of labor, the creation and maintenance of the reserve army of labor and the other workers, generally designated male. This also made women more precarious overall and paid worse than men for the same job, fulfilling a similar role for hyperexpoitation as race.

A leftist who says, “it’s about class not identity” is not well-versed in basic Marxist analysis or history. They are forwarding a wrong and counterrevolutionary line. They should always say, “yes and” to describe both class antagonism and marginalizationa related to identity politics as both emerging from capitalism. Class conflict isn’t even always the primary contradiction in a nation, such as in Palestine where it is settler colonialism (and internationally, imperialism). One should always be able to recognize the real existence of marginalization and its function in the service of capital, spreading a coherent, united approach towards contradictions.

Now, there is a common and liberal form of identity politics that is mostly just a self-serving form of tokenization. Like the 3rd generation gusano that says, “how dare you tell me Castro did good things, he took my family’s slave plantation farm!” These are cynical weapons that are themselves inherently racist, sexist, transphobic, etc etc by flattening a ethnic group, gender, etc into just one experience that somehow, through the magic of liberalism, ends up justifying fascism, genocide, war, imperialism… We do have to push back against this.

Just finished Player of things by Iain M Banks.

Set in post scarcity anarcho communist society.

    and writer is a Chad

In late 2004, Banks joined a group of UK politicians and media figures campaigning to have Prime Minister Tony Blair impeached after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. In protest, he cut up his passport and posted it to 10 Downing Street. In a Socialist Review interview, Banks explained that his passport protest occurred after he had "abandoned the idea of crashing my Land Rover through the gates of Fife dockyard, after spotting the guys armed with machine guns.

In 2010, Banks called for a cultural and educational boycott of Israel after the Gaza flotilla raid incident

instructed his agent to turn down any further book translation deals with Israeli publishers

I think Game of Thrones is a great example as to why I dont get invested in still being worked on media. Like, if better call Saul had a GOT tier ending I think I actually would’ve exploded. It’s why I haven’t started playing Deltarune yet, even if I’m pretty sure it’ll be good.

I mean, at least the people who watched the GOT TV show got an ending. I can’t imagine what it’s like for fans of the books

That’s why I prefer tv shows with only one season, where the entire story line is being completed in one season so later seasons can’t ruin it. And even if the ending does suck, at least you didn’t get invested in the show for years.

I believe there IS at least one fan project to write TWoW lol, haven’t read it yet. The thing is that (according to GRRM) TWoW will be when we finally learn what the deal is with The Others and learn more about Valyria than we ever have before. So that alone isn’t an easy task. The way the show did this was extremely underwhelming and by-the-numbers.
If it were my version I’d definitely make it so that the Targs sold out Valyria to the Faceless Men because they grew to abhor slavery and wanted to be big fish in a little pond in Westeros. I think it’s basically canon already.

It is best to just exit.

Leftist groups, at least certain ones, can act very cultish and they may gossip and badmouth you to others to other activist organizations in the area, for example. Also, there are other forms of reprisal.

Honestly, as someone that has dealt with this stuff not too long ago, I would just bow out and not make it into an event if you can.

      Depends. I’d think like this:

      • Is it a big party, with some marxist and some soc-dems etc.? Try to find like-minded comrades and use it as a way to agitate for and educate about marxist politics (if that is possible within the structure)
      • Is it a small cadre party? If so you might want to skip out
      • Is it a specific issue group? See if you can work in a positive way about the specific issue and discuss the topic amicably if it shows up. BUT this depens a lot on the situation!

If you are unsure, discuss with a comrade you know, write a journal, and go with your gut feeling, and don’t attach yourself too much to something you are skeptical of.

I know the “video games can’t be art” thing is kinda a dead horse, but I think most of what can be said about video games can also apply to, of all things, architecture. Architects have to deal with physics and usability in a similar way game designers and writers have to deal with the limits of programming and usability.
