In the game, Russia is responsible for the Venezuela coup, and are currently invading the “Middle East” like Israel.

North Korea mindlessly slaughters their people

It’s honestly fucking hilarious

In the North Korea “story” your player character assists their superior in interrogating and torturing a married couple in a village for a location of a target. Only when shooting the husband in the leg after beating him with your service weapon does he give you the location of the target.

This is actually not about North Korea at all but instilling into the audience that torture is an effective means of extracting information and that all of what the US citizen army did in Iraq and Afghanistan was justified. All of seppo media is like this.

The games fucking looooooooooove torture so much it’s wild. They’re pretty good at normalising it too. It blows me away that a literal series of NATO propaganda games in which Remington® advertised its wares owned the entire PS360 gen.

They also love doing the Kim Yo Jong is secretly pulling the strings tabloid that was astroturfed last year. They made the Kim Jong Un stand-in a sympathetic twink who is being bullied by his butch sister.

Anti-Korean propaganda is a strange removedtail of orientalism anticommunism and american projection but g@mers will eat that up because g@mers are the foot soldiers of fascism.

I want a work of media to do a “tough men making tough decisions” torture scene like this only for it to turn out that the captive just made some shit up so that they’d stop getting tortured and the bogus intel results in a massive operational failure.

    No way lol

Also nice to be in a community that actually would call this out. CoD has some serious whitewashing of Amerika’s horrific crimes against humanity

The Venezuelan coup isn’t even a year old and they’re already pushing that on Russia? The Highway of Death happened a couple of decades before they decide to do an alt history where Russia did it instead of the US. Then again object permanance isn’t American strong suit.

Trying to think of a cawadoody that isn’t some flavour of this. The WW2 games are all verbatim repeats of the worst myths about russia’s great patriotic war, CoD4 is SAS propaganda in which a “group of russian ultranationalists” is resonsible for a coup in Notafghanistan and someone is gonna launch nukes about it. The subsequent MW games just do that more, up to and including a russian attack on US soil. The Black Ops games are all just “bro we should have won the cold war harder bro, we should have done Rambo 3 for real bro” with some Tom Clancy near-future bs on the side, but the crown jewel has to be Ghosts in which ALL NATIONS OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN CONTINENT GET TOGETHER TO INVADE THE USA. timmy-pray

These games are so fuckin stupid, I couldn’t be fucked keeping track after Black Ops 3. At least Big Train Go Boom…

Ghosts in which ALL NATIONS OF THE SOUTH AMERICAN CONTINENT GET TOGETHER TO INVADE THE USA.

CoD portraying Amerika as this poor victim from a long deserved retaliation from the South American continent is par for the course. Imagine if a dev made a game where the Amerikan soldiers are the enemy and you kill them.

How would they react? Predictably: frothingfash

In the 90s in Half-Life you kill a lot of US soldiers who are portrayed as illiterate goons who can’t do anything except murder. Except in the German version where that’s censored.

Reactions would be a lot worse now though. I blame social media and the rage it incentives.

I think it’s because they aren’t really the “US Army” but rather a unit that are specialized specifically for situations like Black Mesa. Them being called HECU (Hazardous Environmental Combat Unit?)

          So like a fake faction.

I think COD4 definitely takes the least worst award. It seems self-aware that almost all events in the campaign are self-inflicted and the US/UK forces could just back off at any point and nothing else would happen. Imran Zakhaev (hey what if our bad guy was both Russian AND Muslim?) was a much better villain than le epic joker Makarov too. Also your Russian allies are wearing Soviet insignia.

But yeah this shit is still bad. Even if there is a deliberate theme of the folly of endless western escalation all the g@mers are not going to be picking up on it.

I genuinely think least worse goes to Black Ops Cold War on the technicality that you can be an 80s enby that ends up shooting your various western intelligence teammates who brainwashed you in the head and then win the cold war for the USSR by detonating stay-behind nukes all over europe

Least-worst is still a low bar, I don’t really think cod4 is that self aware. It’s nominally anti-war in a way that fits DoD narratives and shit: ‘The REAL HEROES are the HARD SAS BLOKES doing DIRTY WORK BEHIND THE SCENES who NEVER GET ANY CREDIT’, underscored by the news headline that’s read after you kill Zakhaev. Anti-War-Pro-Soldier, so like First Blood but without any officers down. Plus the russian ultranationalists are depicted as complete bastards even though what Zakhaev says in the intro is pretty much true about the post-Soviet USSR.

I remember someone saying they were arguing with someone else over the US doing the highway of death and refused to believe it wasn’t Russia.

Thing is if you go on forums discussing it there’s always a number of Americans justifying it.

i can see how this might happen. the writers at EA are like “we want to make a war that feels modern” and “we want to use America’s list of Acceptable Bad Guys”, and the result is “everything bad America and its allies do get blamed on everyone else”. but it certainly feels like a deliberate psyop.

You might be thinking of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (1), not to be confused with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Nope, it’s actually the first Modern Warfare in a decade that we haven’t “already had”.

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out in 2007 as the fourth entry in the entire Call Of Duty series.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare came out in 2019 as a reboot.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 came out in 2009 and 2022 (reboot). The 2009 version was technically “Call of Duty 6” since it was preceded by World at War.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 came out in 2011 and 2023 (reboot). The 2011 version was technically “Call of Duty 8” since it was preceded by Black Ops.

They never got to Modern Warfare 4, instead they had Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare, Vanguard, and WW2 which were futuristic and then WW2 games.

So now here we are, seeing Modern Warfare 4 for the first time ever. And I’m almost certain it will be shit.

I have a weird soft spot for these games. It’s fun to point at guys and shoot.

But also Holy fucking shit, they’re so drenched in propaganda, that it’s almost funny. I played the original Modern Warfare trilogy awhile back, and the story is absolute nonsense.
