Games@hexbear.net•C&C Tiberium series "Nod are the good guys actually" discourse got me cooking up a concept for a GDI ecosocialist subfaction: Gaia's SoldiersEnglish
7·8 days agoMaybe a subfaction of Nod with sympathies for its soviet roots, kinda like communists in modern Russia.
That sounds pretty awesome, too! I’m picturing their logo being a hammer and sickle, with the sickle being the Nod scorpion tail.

11·11 days agoThe thing I most clearly remember about Futurama is how it made a dig at vegans in an episode where listening to vegans would have prevented the very problem the episode was about

7·20 days agoI have been absolutely glued to UFO 50. I’ve enjoyed most of the games very much, and it scratches the oddly specific itch of “trying a bunch of obscure old games and stumbling upon hidden gems.” I’m about halfway through, and so far my favorites are Bug Hunter, Attactics, Mortol, and Avianos.

7·28 days agoI think you misunderstood xenon’s argument. She’s saying that the problem with the mods is that they’re misogynist and heteronormative as opposed to that they’re sexual in nature, not that disliking them is misogynist.

6·28 days agoThe only thing I know about Yuffie in the remake is that she sings that really cute Chocobo song and that’s enough to make me like her

8·28 days agoDon’t forget that the concept of expressing one’s sexuality in creative works didn’t exist until capitalists invented it in the 20th century! Horny media is a novel cognitohazard that will fry your brain and definitely not something humans have been doing since before recorded history /s

10·29 days agoFrom what I can tell, it looks like they’re making communism a high-risk, high-reward strategy by making it both realistically effective and realistically hated by all the bourgeois nations.

Games@hexbear.net•What videogames don't work outside the medium of videogames?English
9·1 month agoFavoring one specific decision path removes the element of player choice and consequences that is core to the narrative, so no, not without losing a significant part of what makes the narrative meaningful.

Games@hexbear.net•What videogames don't work outside the medium of videogames?English
19·1 month agoAny game where player decisions and the weight thereof are tightly incorporated into the narrative:
- Spec Ops: The Line
- Undertale/Deltarune
- Papers, Please
- Pathologic
- Suzerain
- This War of Mine

5·1 month agoI might enjoy that. I’ve got pretty respectable finish times for the original Doom and Super Metroid, and I can rack up a good score in Sinistar.

Games@hexbear.net•Is there a popular game series that you understand and respect why people like it, but could never get into yourself?English
12·1 month agoBasically any game that is well-made but at the same time ridiculously difficult (looking at you, Silksong).
Cozy games: I understand the emotional need they fulfill, but they tend to feel saccharine to me.
Most visual novels (I love the Ace Attorney series though).
Those really old Roguelikes where everything is ASCII graphics and you have to memorize a million keyboard commands.
Most Roguelikes in general. There are a few I enjoy, but that’s in spite of their Roguelike elements rather than because of them.
And for the inverse: I like the Pokemon games but can understand why people would find them off-putting from an animal exploitation/unfortunate implications perspective. It entirely comes down to whether the setting and creatures as presented are fantastical enough not to evoke discomfort, and that line’s going to be different for everybody.

Games@hexbear.net•What's the wokest game?English
7·2 months agolol yeah I get this a lot because of how I like to portray demons in my creative works. Sure they’re literal manifestations of sin but it’s hard not to portray them sympathetically when Christian “sins” include things like communism, feminism, being LGBT, being a disobedient slave, opposition to genocide, and being indigenous on land Christians want.
