“Abdul El-Sayed winning a Senate seat would be as dangerous as Mamdani winning as Mayor in New York. Does no one in America know what Islam stands for?” lamented commentator Joey Mannarino.

You mean the Mamdani who fixed all the potholes in New York City in record time? The same Mamdani who cleared the snow in record time? The Mamdani who’s helping grocery store prices? The be really clear, the Mamdani who Trumpty has a man crush on?

She probably is an anti-Trump Republican. All the Republicans who can’t stomach Trump started moving to the Democratic Party. But they aren’t changing their beliefs, they are changing the party.

Either the GOP gets healthy or dies. There is a need for a progressive party.

Bernie Sanders rejects ceasefire calls, says Israel must defend itself against Hamas

“I don’t know how you can have a ceasefire, a permanent ceasefire, with an organization like Hamas, which is dedicated to turmoil and chaos and destroying the State of Israel,” Sanders told CNN. “I think what the Arab countries in the region understand is that Hamas has got to go.”

Bernie Sanders: Israel has a right to US protection

“I am 100 percent pro-Israel in the sense of Israel’s right to exist,” Sanders said. “I lived in Israel, I have family in Israel, Israel has the right to live not only in peace and security, but to know that their very existence will be protected by the United States government.”

He is of the opinion that the “war crimes” happening in Gaza are just because of Netanyahu, and not Israel itself. He only called what was happening in Gaza a fucking genocide TWO YEARS IN, and that’s only because public opinion shifted that way too much. He is a zionist removed. I really don’t know why U.S. leftists love that repulsive pile of filth so much, but I guess I can’t be surprised after seeing the lengths to which they went for Graham Platner.

It is actually crazy that people call the Democrats ‘left’.

To quote from one of the classics:

Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?

I’ve seen Democrats label Republicans “communist” for almost as long as I’ve seen Republicans accusing Democrats of the same. In a country of, by, and for fascists, all “Left” means is “I hate you”.

Just thinking that some of my federal tax is going to Israel, which is then funneled back through AIPAC to buy attack ads, political operatives, and media time for both Republicans and Democrats to defeat him. If it’s not too late, they will finance an independent candidate to siphon votes from him? And I’m paying for it all! Fun huh?

No, it comes from the word for “right” (in the sense of both the hand and of being correct). That’s the meaning in both Hebrew and Arabic. The Egyptian word “Amun” has a different etymology and means something that’s concealed. He was The God With No Name, the Hidden One.

You and everyone else subject to the corpofacist propaganda machine only thinks the second candidate is more electable because of the corporate propaganda. Vote for your own best interests And the better policies will follow.

No it won’t. This is such an insane comment as if you just haven’t existed in the real world for the past 10 years. Democracy is broken and when we have the landscape that we currently do, your idea is the worst advice possible. People need to lock in and vote strategically. It’s only after you have stability that anyone should do what you suggest. But until then there are serious consequences for following advice like yours. There are some things that if you fail today, you’ll never get another chance the rest of your life. Things don’t just go back to some baseline because you feel it in heart that you can ignore the current political situation. Historically it is more likely to fail and create suffering. Vote to win, not for feeling good

That attitude is why trump won in 2016 and 2024. Abdul and Zohran are what happens when people stop listening to the electability propaganda of the Centrists. That electability argument is the primary reason we are left with ineffective libs shoving money in their pockets. Ignoring Trump, would you rather have Bernie or Hillary at the head of your political party?

No, you can still push for change in the party. But don’t tell people to not vote strategically when it matters. What very literally the last election was people deciding not to vote for Hilary rather than people voting for Trump. And now women can’t get abortions. The Supreme Court will never side for the left for the rest of your entire life. Saudis are getting nukes. Russia and Ukraine are still at war. Plus there is a new Iran war that added thousands of dollars of expenses to bills annually. And the MAGA donors and Trump have all enriched themselves at a scale that means even after he his long gone, the government will still answer to them. The left were led towards defeat by our own people.

You people are so out of touch it’s not funny. You don’t fuck around with the big elections. You need to show small scale success and build up. You get your Mamdanis. You build networks and communities with shit you don’t believe in, not because you want them to win. You need MAGA to lose. The left are made of the worst procrastinating arch types who fail at most tasks in life. Like this needs serious self reflection. You don’t have the backing of billionaires so you need grass roots. Instead the left sit around until it’s the big game and you hope ideals push you to victory. Then when you lose you blame everything but yourselves. The reason Trump won is as much the fault of leftist voters as it is the right

That’s exactly what people are doing in the primaries.

              Centrist propaganda messaging:

General election: vote blue no matter who! Don’t like the candidates? Fix it in the primary!

Primary: we must choose the electable candidate. Don’t rock the boat. Work to change the party from the inside in vague ways I can’t get into because reasons.

It’s interesting that no matter what the time is, it’s never the time to push for progressive candidates. It’s always “the wrong time.”

Because progressives do not do the ground work. Not effectively. It’s as if taking people who are social outcasts and asking them to compete in a battle of popularity puts them at a disadvantage.

But now is a good time. The left is yet again winning victories only because the right have fucked up so bad that people now want change.

What are you smoking? Progressives are all about ground game. How do you think progressives kick centrist ass? It’s all about ground game! The DSA is an actual old-fashioned membership organization.

I really don’t know what you’re smoking. Centrists buy TV ads. Progressives focus on ground game. Centrists give their money to corporate consultants, progressives on knocking on doors.

Look at the recent Michigan Senate primary. Stevens outspent El-Sayed 12 to 1!.

Progressives can’t match the dollars of corporate Democrats; their only hope to win is a massive ground game. It’s the only way to win if you’re being massively outspent.

Like, seriously. I am honestly curious how you reached such an insane conclusion. Like, if progressives are known for anything, it’s rejecting corporate funding in lieu of the ground game. What possibly lead you to such a bone-headed and farcical conclusion?

It’s like trying to argue that Republicans are better at protecting abortion rights than Democrats. It’s just pants-on-head silly.

I’m in my late 40’s. 2 years ago, i had the same knee jerk attitude. Since then I’ve been scanning the current political climate, started watching MSM with a more critical eye, and have tried to consume opinions from independent media across the left wing spectrum (i.e pod save america vs. Hasan Piker). Gaza and Iran have changed things. As far as i can tell, a majority of democrats are on gaza’s side, hate the Iranian conflict and have become disillusioned with Israel. Yet, the party leaders, and their talking heads, appear to be to the right of the constituents on these issues. MSM treats the majority left wing opinions as radical, obviously pushing centrist/corporate/aipac talking points. This has devalued MSM opinion generally. Now, when Jake Tapper implies a brown politician that calls gaza a genocide is antisemitic, more and more people are just devaluing the MSM opinions generally. Look at national media talking points regarding the cureent wave of left flank candidates. Unelectable, unreasonable, unrealistic, antisemitic, etc… a majority of the left ain’t listening anymore.

Stop treating politics like it’s still 2008…it ain’t. Vote for the best policy, not for the one CNN tells you is better.

Stop treating politics like it’s still 2008…it ain’t. Vote for the best policy, not for the one CNN tells you is better.

Centrists are insane. Literally definitionally insane.

A definition for madness is “trying the same thing repeatedly expecting a different result.”

We nominate corporate centrists election after election, and they lose again and again. Yet somehow these losers always get portrayed as reasonable and electable. Biden only squeaked out a win in 2020 because of covid. Even with a million Americans dead and in the ground, in large part due to Trump’s mismanagement, corporate dems were so unpopular that Biden was only able to barely get over the finish line.

Stop treating politics like it’s still 2008…it ain’t. Vote for the best policy, not for the one CNN tells you is better.

This is the core of it. Some people form their opinions on what electability looks like in one era and then blindly carry that assessment forward for the rest of their lives. In the 90s and 2000s, being centrist was electable. Pre-2008, things were going pretty well in America. We were still riding the post-Cold War high and the long-term effects of neoliberal economics hadn’t really come home to roost yet. The social compact was still reasonably intact. Not for all, but for most. If you played along with the system - get an education, work hard, get married, buy a house, avoid drugs and other destructive behaviors - your life was most likely going to be fine. Racism still existed. People still had their lives derailed by medical emergencies. But for enough of the population, things were well enough that “don’t rock the boat” was a viable political platform. Some folks still protested of course. But most folks were comfortable enough to simply focus on their own lives.

We are no longer in that world. “Go along with the system and live a private life” is no longer a reliable path to a life of stability and dignity. It hasn’t been that way since the Millennial generation came out of college. And elder millennials are in their early 40s right now. We’re reaching a point where the majority of the electorate has had to live their entire adult lives in a condition of economic precarity. Neo-liberalism is toxic because more and more of the electorate has had to grow up under its effects.

This has completely transformed what an “electable candidate” even is.

I don’t think you’re capable of voting strategically. Voting strategically got us Clinton in 2016, Biden in 2020, and Kamala in 2024. Neo-liberalism lost each election. Biden only eeked out a win in 2020 because of covid. If it weren’t for covid, Trump would have won in 2020.

You do not know what an electable candidate in 2026 looks like. Your opinions are a generation out of date.

              Webster defnes it as:

a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictoral leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition

              (Mildly edited)

Even when America had slavery and only white male landowners could vote, it was a democracy. Not a very representative one, but a democracy nonetheless.

You don’t feel the system that enslaved human beings based on their race “exalts nation and race over the individual?”

I’d say the US wasn’t fascist in that period because fascism is a post-industrial ideology that’s interrelated with corporate mass media. But, when it did come around, fascism was explicitly modeled on the “slavery + colonial genocide” era of the USA’s development. Fascism in the 20th century was the logic of colonialism coming home from the periphery to the imperial core.

I think El-Sayed is a good candidate in a vacuum (I learned he isn’t DSA so that’s a positive, at least until they start seriously courting him) - meanwhile every single left leaning DSA news source was trying to convince me that it was going to be an omega-giga landslide victory.

It wasn’t, you were all wrong. Francesca Hong is a fucking weirdo and so is anyone who supports her (the DSA).

Polls had him up by double digits. None of your imagined villains were wrong, unless we’ve got a stealth pollster here.

But yeah, you’re certainly having a day. Enjoy your cope, weirdo.

Every single poll I see has him above Stevens by over 10%. Congrats on your tag.

What are you even trying to say here? You just reiterated my point. People thought it was going to be a blowout because the polling from multiple sources indicated it was going to be a blowout (at least relative to any highly contested race).

And I couldn’t care less what sort of weird account notes you’re not only taking about your Lemmy experiences but desperately want to tell me about. It’s certainly not doing yourself any favors on the “melting down” accusation.

That was true, and known, while the DSA talking heads were all claiming that it would be a landslide victory.

It was not. Let me know when they start winning purple districts. I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you, because they won’t be winning them.

Also holy fuck - a woman running for governor has said she wants to cancel Thanksgiving. I’m not engaging with brain damaged blue MAGA beyond shit slinging.

Talk’s cheap, but he got the result, and now you’re quibbling about the size of the margin. Even if he won by only one vote, he still won. That’s how it works.

As the old song goes: Which side are you on?

I’m detailing the size of the margin because the DSA is consistently fucking wrong. Not only that, they’re completely manipulative - I want you to point to a single DSA member that has provided an actionable plan towards the things they want to see in the country. Not wishes, not ideals - policy. Because, as far as I can see, the most prominent DSA member is suggesting she wants to take ban fucking Halloween.

I’m really very curious as to what metrics you have for what a good democratic candidate is, except for “won the democratic primary”.

How about we start with not hating Thanksgiving? Or do you think that taking away holidays is a step forward for the country?

Edit: I want you to point to a single clip of a DSA member being critical of another DSA member.

What does “banning” it look like? Are you really so privileged that this is your concern??

And to be clear, we’re talking about the woman that lost, right?

This was in a Democratic primary. Even if it was a “purple” district, it wouldn’t make a difference because Republicans wouldn’t be voting in this race, and in Michigan you can’t vote for different parties across various races in the primary.
