The only time I use private tabs is when I need to look something up that I should already know. Like spelling a really easy word or not knowing a very basic fact.

politics @lemmy.world•California Gov. Gavin Newsom says Trump's Justice Department is investigating him and his wife
20·18 hours agoFor real. Y’all realize that celebrating when the government goes after someone you don’t like with obviously bogus claims is exactly what MAGA celebrates, right? Like, I don’t like Newsom either but we shouldn’t celebrate a rogue DOJ under any circumstance.

Economy@lemmy.world•Nearly half of U.S. families couldn't afford basic necessities in 2024, report finds
11·6 days agoI’m not even a family and I’m basically fucked right now. The good news is that I can skip on groceries every now and than because I was planning on losing weight anyway.
That’s me with my half my siblings. And yet, I still forget to text them on their birthday even though the last text message was on their birthday.

World News@lemmy.world•Microsoft admits Game Pass price hike drove away "millions" of subscribersEnglish
15·6 days agoYeah, but from a business perspective the whole reason they raised the price was to make more money, not the same amount they made before. Their projected profits were probably based on current users so breaking even or not reaching those projected profits would be considered a huge failure.

politics @lemmy.world•Vance says Kirk assassination led him and Second Lady Usha Vance to have a fourth child
9·8 days agoSomehow I highly doubt Kirk had any significant impact on his life or decisions in any way whatsoever. Republican politicians and especially MAGA politicians never really cared about Kirk, they just liked that he would help them convert young people. That’s how they all think. They don’t give a shit about each other and only see eachother as a means to elevate themselves even after they are dead. Just like none of them even give a shit about Trump and are only using him to push their own individual goals. It’s why they flip flopped so hard even as “never Trumpers.” They are all selfish and in it for themselves, it just so happens all their goals align at present.

Fediverse vs Disinformation@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Any American who criticizes israel will be monitored by the FBI — Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of ADL
24·8 days agoSo… The majority of Americans? I’m pretty sure the majority of Americans, regardless of political beliefs, are souring on Israel in record numbers. Yes, even MAGA.

Privacy@programming.dev•Papers, Please: A First Look at Age Verification on the Web
19·12 days agoIdentity verification, not age verification. You would have to give anyone on the internet access to your identity.
I’m just sick of seeing “age verification” plastered all over the internet when that’s not what it’s about.

World News@lemmy.world•Meta Silently Added Face-Recognition Code for Its Smart Glasses to Millions of PhonesEnglish
34·12 days agoSo one should just sacrifice everyone elses safety and privacy because you’re bad a recognizing faces? I get that it can be helpful, but you are literally uploading strangers faces and likeness to Meta’s servers without their consent. It’s creepy and predatory.
But steel is heavier than feathers…

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•CEOs blame AI for layoffs, but an MIT professor says it fits a long-running pattern to find a cover story. ‘They’ve been saying that for 20 years’
8·13 days agoThey were gonna lay those people off regardless of whether or not they were using AI. The only difference is that if they say it was because of AI the line will go up and they will make more money. If anything, the extra money they make just by saying it was because of AI could easily pay the salary of those being layed off. It’s basically a magic word that gives them free money. I don’t even think wallstreet is even in on the hype and are just pumping it as high as they can so they can make out like bandits when shit hits the fan.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Treating the USA's "250th" Birthday like a big deal is like celebrating a spoiled child's birthday.
8·14 days agoIf it was the 100th, the 200th, or even the 300th I would get it. But the 250th? That literally means nothing. It’s like celebrating my 25th birthday as if it’s as big a deal as my 21st or 30th. In reality I don’t even remember my 25th birthday because nobody, including myself, gave a shit.
I’m pretty sure it’s literally just because the majority of those in power right now won’t be alive for the 300th birthday and they just picked the next best looking number they found find.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•The sole reason the US teaches rugged individualism over collectivism
4·18 days agoIn my opinion, individualism is fine. The problem is weaponized individualism. For example: Everybody has a preferred brand of car or type of car. Every car has their own advantages and disadvantages and some cars fit different lifestyles. Unfortunately, car companies use this to their advantage to make their customers attack those that don’t drive said brand. You’re patriotic or manly if you drive a big truck and anyone that drives a smaller car is a removed. On the other side of the argument, only people that have small dicks or who have a fragile masculinity drive big trucks. Car companies make you think your choice is superior no matter which one you choose yet both are fucking you over behind the scenes. BMW may implement a subscription plan for heated seats, but at the same time Ford has a patent for listening to you while you drive and giving you targeted advertising.
We’ve been convinced to defend brands and corporations over our own opinions. Gamers talk about greedy billionaires but swoon for Gabe Newell and Valve even though they are being just as shady as the rest of them if you scratch under the surface. “Let’s agree to disagree” has turned into “I’m right and you’re an idiot” all the while we defend the people hurting us as long as they are on our “side.” They’ve weaponized our individualism to make us attack each other even when we agree with each other that they are all fucking us over.

I had this weird syncronisticity a few years back where at least once a week I’d look at the time it it’d be 4:04. I’d often say “404: Time not found” and literally nobody ever got it so I started just saying it in my head instead.

TommySoda@lemmy.worldtoHacker News@lemmy.bestiver.se•DuckDuckGo search saw 28% more visits after Google said people love AI modeEnglish
2·20 days agoI switch between the two depending on what I’m looking for but I’ve been leaning towards DuckDuckGo. The only problem with DuckDuckGo is that it actually works like a search engine so I have to go back to Google when I wanna find an obscure reddit post that solves my issue because it’s the best way to search for tech problems through Reddit. That’s literally all Google is these days, AI and Reddit.

News@lemmy.world•Trump team is ‘drawing up’ plans to stop international flights to some Democratic cities
44·20 days agoI’m aware. I’m just saying that it’d be catastrophic for all of us.

Based upon any video I have ever seen of ICE in this situation, my guess is that they shot first. Isn’t it standard procedure to not shoot at a moving vehicle in order to protect yourself? There was a whole debate after the Renee Goode shooting about how absolutely fucking stupid it is to shoot at a moving vehicle in order to “defend yourself.”
