4·1 month agoI saw it today after hearing about the “polarizing” nature of the film which piqued my interest. After giving it some thought I think I lean towards the liking the movie camp, but I can understand why people hate this film too.
To those that haven’t seen it here, this film hides a pretty big plot twist early on in the film that forces you to rethink how you see the story.
It’s quite jarring and it took me like an hour into the film to fully settle in and appreciate what the director was going for, but not everyone will enjoy it.
The promotional material completely hides this and just makes you think it’s another iteration of the movie Don’t Look Up, which in some ways it is, but it’s also more than that.
It looks like a straightforward political satire, but it’s actually a deconstruction of the satire genre done in a very unique way. The absurdism is the point.

2·1 year agoWestern/ Global North “leftists” try not to fall for another social fascist challenge (Impossible).
Even before this came out, the fact that this guy is an Iraq/ Afghan War vet who went there FOUR times, once as a BLACKWATER MERCENARY who is also proud of this fact and refuses to acknowledge what he did was wrong should have been a massive red flag. I know a lot of people here don’t like BadEmpanada, but he was 100% in the right to condemn Hasan and everyone else who supported this guy.

I think Nicolas Cage put it pretty well when he recently called the MCU a “well-funded and glorified WWE”.
It’s the spectacle of watching your childhood superhero figures beating the bad guys (or each other) up on the big screen. People love that shit and will pay lots of money to see it. But don’t beat yourself up for not liking it, it’s definitely become a generic, formulaic product that Disney milks for cash and nothing else. Much like WWE. There is also a ton of Great Man Theory and American Exceptionalism in the MCU which I find insufferable at times.
That being said, there are some stand out MCU stuff that I do actually like because they break from the usual script. WandaVision and Agatha All Along come to mind.
