I had the GameCube “The two towers” and “return of the king”
This is definately ROTK from the GameCube by the amount of characters (TTT was only 4 I think)
Faramir was pretty great.
But that era of LOTR games was phenomenal.
Gameboy The Third Age being an advance wars/fire emblem turned based while other platforms were an open world RPG and they were all great.
The movie games were absolutely great.
The Hobbit cartoon-style game was also pretty good.
Battle For Middle Earth series was iconic and while unbalanced, had some of the most epic fights
LOTR Conquest was like battlefront with LOTR
Like star wars games in those days, there were so many different game genres where most of them were actually really well done unlike other movie based games.
It looks like the PS2 version of the EA series of LOTR games that csme out shortly after the Peter Jackson movies. I forget their full title, but they were kinda like Force Awakens. A couch co-op, mostly side scrolling, 3D action adventure beat-em up. They were pretty damn good.
Edit: They were the official movie tie in games, and just shared the title of each film. IE “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings,” “Two Towers” and “Return of the King.”
Anyone actually played these recently? I loved them as a kid but scared to go back in case it’s just nostalgia
I’m in the same boat as you. I’m worried this might have been the type of gameplay that was killer during its era but could feel tedious now.
(Like every time I’ve tried to go back to World of Warcraft. The magic is gone.)
I fired it up on GameCube recently and it’s surprisingly good and hard as hell. Definitely old school in how linear it is and how repetitive it can get in the sections you keep having to replay because you keep dying, but the story flows well and the XP upgrades are pretty neat too.
But man, HD and 4K gaming has definitely spoiled me lol
Well that’s encouraging!
Yeah, those early 3d years had a lot of good games that are hard to look at, lol
My dad got this game for me when I was a kid.
After school one day I come home, and he’s playing it. He’s 10 levels ahead on another character. It was the only video game I’ve ever watched him play of his own volition.
