Idk, I for my part force my kids to stream on Peertube👍
My man.
The hero we don’t deserve
You try to control my kids. Good luck. They’re punk rock af. Perhaps too empowered.
Buddy, thanks for the offer but that’s on you.
I’m not strictly against it but I’d hope you spend a lot of time teaching media literacy.
It kind of is and kind of isn’t. I’m guessing you don’t have kids. You have to pick your battles. Every disagreement or lesson or whatever takes energy. You only get so much per day. Some kids need more energy from you than others.
That said, regarding your original question, mine don’t stream on YouTube and I can’t imagine why a parent would. That is a battle I would pick. They don’t even have computer web cams. (their phones do, but our rule is you can’t have them on when other people are around unless they okay it.)
Yeah it’s on me. My kids are living their best life.
My bad.
I did lots of crazy shit as a kid, so I get it.
I also look back now and realize I was a very neglected child.
My kids wish they were neglected lol.
“I get it dad there are fascists everywhere let me play Roblox and go to bed. I won’t go walking without my hat pin”
Nah, I know, my sister spends every waking moment with her daughter and she has her own YouTube. She gets real into it and I would never call my sister a bad parent.
Terminally online parents create terminally online kids lol
“From you dad! I learned from watching you!”
Parents who spam the internet have kids who spam the internet.
I used to build the internet. Now I don’t. I’m going to keep my kid off the worst of it as long as possible, but I’m gmdoing it by explaining the problems with it as he grows. So far so good, but he’s only 7 so it’s still the easy time for us. Check back in 2-3 years…
Some don’t realize the dangers. Some don’t care. Some actively exploit their children for views and money.
The whole thing seems dangerous and I think we brush it off. Like, I’d honestly let my kid walk to the park by themselves before letting them give their likeness to youtube.
A cousin uploaded a video to YT of her 4yo daughter playing with her friends in one of those inflatable pools. Just for family and the like. It was getting 500 views a day before she took it down. Creepy!
Yikes
At some point, it stopped being common to explain the dangers of interacting with people you don’t know online. It used to be common sense that you don’t post images or videos to the Internet because they can be used to identify and find you IRL. Now people straight up post their fucking address and phone number on their Facebook page, while simultaneously afraid of someone knowing their IP address. 🤦♂️
some parents just have these kind of tech way over their heads and just think it is all fun and games.
not all people adapt as fast as how tech (and security implications) move forward.
Same reason they post their kids all over Facebook.
From what I remember Facebookes usually have privacy settings setup.
Cool. Still the Internet. Do you trust every single person on your friends list and all of Facebooks employees to not get their password stolen?
Lol.
Lmao even.
Ok. I mean I’m not on Facebook but does your argument about how youtube and facebook are relative have a point? Can you acknowledge that there is some distinction between the two?
They don’t know their children are streaming because they don’t care about their children. They only care about drugs and watching TV. The children are streaming for money to buy things to break from the monotonous life of being told to go away and watching content farm slop. Some are trying to buy soap so they aren’t the stinky kid anymore, as the parents can buy soap but they need to save for a $100 bag with a $5000 name on it.
Also the viewers are the closest thing the children have to family and friends.
Because you get paid!
Sadly no. You basically become the poster boy from some random ass misspelling that brings up your account.
Why not?
IMO small children shouldn’t be able to consent to being publicized by big tech companies like youtube.
