We heard about people getting disappeared in China for criticizing the party. Now people are being disappeared in the US because they speak up against Israel committing a genocide.

What really got me was how quickly conservatives pivoted from “Russia is an enemy of all right thinking, red blooded Americans!” during Snowden/Wikileaks under Bush to “Vladimir Putin is the only man who truly cares about freedom and democracy!” under Obama.

Same with Hong Kong, which consistently enjoyed the highest praise in Paleocon/Libertarian circles… right up until the 2019 protests, when half the conservative movement realized this city was fully within the thrall of the Chinese Communist Party. I’ve seen Singapore bleeding support for similar reasons.

People being disappeared in the US isn’t a sudden turn of events. The BLM movement from 2014 revolved around chronic police abuses, including the kidnapping and murder of local residents by municipal police (Sandra Bland and Freddie Gray being two contemporary well-documented examples). Then we had the hundreds of residents tossed into Gitmo and other US blacksites, going back to the War on Terror. And the police terror campaigns during the Nixon-Reagan War on Crime/Drugs and the Eisenhower Red Scare. Hell, we’ve known about police-endorsed lynchings as an American tradition since Emmett Till, ffs.

But we have to pretend this is an Evil Foreigner Thing that we need a strong overseas military to prevent, rather than a sinister domestic agenda that Americans need to rebel against and overthrow. Otherwise, we might begin to see the Thin Blue Line as less of a protective barrier and more of a garrotte closing around our necks.

and Nazi Germany modeled its policies on US Indian removal. “Western civilization” is just white supremacist settler colonialism all the way down.

Harris has been an unapologetic accomplice of genocide. We can criticize Trump for all his flaws but one must acknowledge his success in brokering a peace deal.

Ah yes because she said she was going to deport people and shut down protests.

Trump literally said he was going to do that while campaigning - and is now doing just that.

At least you would’ve had a voice.

Point being, this guy wouldn’t be locked up.

Edit: if anyone had any other realistic options given the situation I’m all ears lmao

Kamala was VP under Biden, who like Obama gave billions to Israel to murder Palestinians. Even tho the majority of people oppose the war, they get this anyway.

The US is not a democracy, it’s a capitalist dictatorship.

So you’re trying to tell me it would’ve been the same and/or worse under Kamala? I want some of whatever you’re on…

I get it’s not ideal, but you’ve got millions of idiots here in the US that couldn’t give a shit about Palestine. I’m not one of the ones you need to convince of this. I just voted for the better of the two options this time around considering the stakes. Voted Bernie Sanders in both 2016 and 2020.

Edit: wonder if you’ll still feel the same way once the special needs orangutan and his best buddy Netanyahu turn Gaza into a strip mall or golf course….

Pretty sure what they meant is same for Palestine.

However it would be without the blatant authoritarian BS going on that hurts people in the US even more.

If your end goal is the fall of US as the result of this, then fair, and I do hope this doesn’t lead to the worst outcome possible - a third world war.

That was kind of the critical issue going on. There was this whole movement to get some kind of course change on Israel. Biden made it clear there was a higher chance of Trump changing course on Israel. Kamala insisted she would not change course from Biden.

It really didn’t work out for their campaign.

Changing course - as in changing Gaza into a golf course?

He literally called Biden a “very bad Palestinian” in their debate lol as if that was an insult. Y’all are whacked out of your minds

I suggest you pay attention to actions rather than words. Trump brokered a peace deal in 10 days when Biden refused to do so in over a year.

Umm… have you tried having a positive identity instead of negative? I believe it would do a lot for us if lemmy was percieved as a ‘community of smart people with interesting discussions’ instead of ‘not reddit’

The fact that Reddit is by far larger means choosing Lemmy is out of a deliberate choice in its favor systemically. This is usually more ideological in basis.
