If all someone is doing for instance on a mac is browsing the web and emails and some light program use they aren’t going to notice the difference going from a m1 mac to a m4 mac.

Same with phones. These days unless somone is using resource hungry applications only noticeable area is battery, and its usually battery life that pushes people to upgrade these days.

Phones aren’t exactly consoles either pointing to how amazing the graphics are compared to the past gen. People just use the same apps like tiktok or whatever on whatever phone they picked up and experience is pretty much the same. Phones aren’t that novel anymore.

I like it because free for all never worked for me and I experienced the worst of it trying to get a gpu during the crypto craze and everyone using bots and alerts to try to snipe something that would go out of stock in seconds.

EVGA game in clutch and did queue system and I got my card for msrp. And I liked it when Valve did it for the Steam Deck.

Hated when Steam Controller did a free for all and ended up wasting couple of hours clicking and coming up empty handed. They went to queue and I finally got one after a few months.

I’d rather wait and if it takes a year or longer so be it, but a free for all approach is one I know I’ll have zero chance at compared to the lotto.

I do less now with phones or at least expect less, since I don’t do gaming on them. Just basic messaging, emails, and basic apps.

Its one of the devices where specs have mattered less and less where before upgrades were desired because just running the OS felt sluggish.

Yeah price hurts but less than I thought.

And I don’t want to be having to use bots or discord channels to get alerts to try and get something that will go out of stock in seconds.

Just use gmail through the browser instead of installing stuff like the gmail app on your phone, and you can have it forward it to your email so you don’t need to open gmail to get school mail. You’ll probably just need to login for replies.

And when it comes to work in the future hopefully you’ll be a provided with a work device. I wouldn’t use a work device for personal use even if it were running Linux, and wouldn’t install work related programs on personal devices. I just consider work devices and programs to be spying on me as default.

All that second to second record keeping that happens passively requires surveillance.

Difference is that you are in control of the data instead of entrusting it to a third party.

I think that is probably the difference between those who are for the idea and against. Compared to even the average person it seems like you want constant surveillance and recording under the condition you control it. And then others just don’t find the need for constant ever present recording even if it is under their complete control.

Which is probably why some don’t find the idea of recording glasses appealing at all, since it’s not something they find a desire for. While those who want everything thing to be documented do.

Yes so only a memory will remain that will glitch out over time like a still life from the backrooms, so it becomes hard to deciper what the original looked like.

They are playing dumb on purpose because they are likely one of those people who wants recording glasses to be widespread enough that people stop being bothered that everyone they encounter is recording them. Then they can get some really nice footage.

I personally wouldn’t consent to being part of facial recognition even if it were friends and family in control of the data.

Maybe there will be some opt out tech in the future so people just show up blurred or a silhouette and distorted audio when people attempt to record or take pics of them, and it requires enabled consent before hand for them to be able to be recorded normally.

Cryptomator being used to upload is an option to consider if cloud service providers like Google, Microsoft, or Apple are used. Then those companies will just get gibberish files as opposed to training data.

I think goal is to at least keep recording glasses from gaining widespread adoption, since once that is culturally accepted then the fight is pretty much over.

So while there are other recording methods it is the reason this one has been the focus of attention.

I just use a Garmin and gadget bridge. I don’t bother connecting it to the internet or using it to look at text messages.

Penalties and fines that have happened for breaking privacy laws has been too low for it to deter any companies making money off this that I don’t believe them.

It lost its meaning long ago when early access did not have buyer protection after a length of time that gave the option for refunds, so more people treated them as games to be viewed as regular releases you buy if you are happy with its current state.

Yeah, GrapheneOS is worth switching to by getting a compatible phone if you can afford it with how it is probably our most used and carried around electronic used for communication.

If I were in the market for a new GPU this would be the one I’d get for a more hassle free Linux gaming experience compared to Nvidia.

Browser would be simplest. Even though I prefer Linux and do run it, Windows might be better in your case with it having the DRM support and apps to run those services at higher resolution and HDR that sticking with browser might not allow.

For my case I picked up a cheap MiniPC and install Fedora on it to use instead of the TV interface.

People do pick up Pixel phones to install GrapheneOS on. How many people pick up Apple phones/tablets and are able to install another OS on it and have it as functional as GrapheneOS?

Same with smartwatches which from the Android side can be used offline with apps like Gadgetbridge to retrieve data without giving your watch internet access and not using the official apps.

Apple is very account and OS centric wanting to funnel everything through them. Exception has been MacOS devices which has had better luck with stuff like Asahi Linux.
