And it would be another €400+ for a carbon fork from a reputable brand, unless you can find a used one that will work. I would not trust cheap aliexpress forks.
What bike are you looking at specifically? In that price range I’d rather get hydraulic brakes and at least an 11 speed groupset than a carbon fork. Unless that bike is just a killer deal and already has that stuff
A carbon fork can save around a kilo, which is both a lot and not that much depending on perspective. Personally I prefer the ride characteristics of a carbon fork over a steel fork, so that’s also something to consider. I find steel forks to either be too noodley, or too harsh, or kinda both. Carbon forks more often feel stiff without feeling harsh.
A fork swap isn’t hard to do, but I would be surprised if the cost of that bike plus a carbon fork isn’t more than just buying a bike that already has a carbon fork. Also finding a compatible fork may or may not be difficult. For example if it’s a straight 1-1/8” steerer with disc brakes your options are pretty limited. Also need to keep the forks axle-to-crown height and rake in mind.

I’m also planning on starting Trails of cold steel, but considering I’ve been playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for like 3 months and still haven’t finished it, who knows how many years the Cold Steel series will take me…

Believe it or not, still haven’t finished XC3. I’m at about 120 hours. It’s still just kinda meh, but my inner completionist won’t let me just power through the story. Oh well.
Assuming I do finally finish it this month, I’ll start on Trails of cold steel next.

Yeah, I want something in a more svelte package, more like a “normal” tablet, like an iPad.
I’m thinking maybe CM5, there are some low profile IO boards out there that can get the whole package down to 10mm thick, not including the screen. Though they are quite expensive.
Also looking into other options like a lattepanda Mu or OrangePi zero 3w, and some radxa sbc’s. Might be blasphemy to say that around here, but they are interesting options. But I cant find a low profile io board for the Mu, and the 3W might be a little underpowered. And it doesn’t seem like there are any good ways to get display out of the OPi or radxa boards besides hdmi.
If only raspberry pi just made a low profile 5. That would be great. Maybe I could cut off the usb-A and Ethernet ports, but that seems high risk considering how expensive pi’s are these days.

This would apply to any situation where the lower value is sufficiently “enough” and the odds are better. Once you cross the threshold of enough, taking worse odds for more is nonsensical.

I’ve never been a smoker, but every now and then I catch a whiff and it smells amazing.
But one time a smoker chick started making out with me at a party and dude her mouth tasted so bad I almost puked. Just burnt and tarry. Blech. If it wasn’t the cigarettes, she must have been eating hot roadkill and the slab of asphalt it was on. Just unbelievably bad
That kind of sealed the deal for me not wanting to smoke, but it still smells good sometimes lol.

Yeah you’re right. Bad example.
Looking at the list on Console Mods I’m actually surprised how many GBA games do use a save battery when a lot of games clearly didn’t need it for saves. Did the battery allow for faster saving, or maybe just cheaper cartridges?

You’re telling me I’m going to have to replace the batteries and replay chrono trigger and Pokémon emerald again? Oh the horror

Yeah I’m expecting a repeat of the video game crash of ‘83. I expect some of the behemoths of the industry to go belly up, but I expect smaller studios to survive, or even benefit from the bigger players dissolving.
And games have looked super good enough for like 10+ years. If the future of gaming on your own hardware is tiny arm based chips, we’ll be just fine. Even in the current hardware shortage, there are a ton of $200 handhelds that can play a ton of games.
I had to look up what that even is. So the answer, unsurprisingly, is never. It looks like it might happen if you have a serious muscular and connective tissue atrophy? So really shouldn’t be something that just happens sometimes

Sweet! I’ve been kind of interested in building a pi-based tablet. That would be perfect. (Yes I know about the CutiePi, I’m not really into it for several reasons)

You will likely need a high power laser to do any actual damage. Class 3b or higher. The kind you need to wear laser goggles for so you don’t blind yourself.

Who knows what kind of bs they could pin on you. Under this administration, I wouldn’t be surprised if they start handing out terror charges for destruction of surveillance equipment.
That’s worst case scenario, but tbh I’d be more worried about bullying from the local cops.

Those things are everywhere, and if you get caught “un-installing” one, they will probably ruin your life. We’re so cooked. Actually living in a really really boring cyberpunk dystopia
It’s pretty much just 0 is really cold and 100 is really hot as far as weather goes. Besides that it feels pretty arbitrary. I’m a metric stan, but I do still think Fahrenheit is pretty good for talking about the weather.

Don’t tell the Alabamians there are demon fish living in the caves. Who knows what kind of stuff they’ll dump in there in response

Ngl, translation is one of the few use cases for ai that I’m generally cool with, at least for personal use. Semi wack to release it publicly, and kind of rough that there’s an actual team working on translating the game.
But like, it’s been 25+ years. I’m more stoked on people that speak a language other than Japanese being able to play it than I am annoyed that they used ai to do it.
That said, I think it should be treated as like an “alpha” translation, open to feedback from native Japanese speakers, which it sounds like it is. It’ll also make it less laborious for those translators. So in general, I think it was a little rude, but not a terrible thing to do.
Yeah €450 isn’t bad. For a casual bike it will be fine, but I don’t think it would be worth changing the fork.
I don’t know what the Finnish used market is like, but I would be surprised if you can’t find at least a 2x10 gravel bike for a similar price. But if 9 speed is fine for you, yeah it looks like a good quality bike.
