I worked with a guy in the 2000’s who was all “Why would you bother doing Linux WITHOUT compiling your own?” who was a Gentoo devotee, and he was fucking great, honestly top ten people I ever had under me for team work, despite being a total alcoholic who would pass out in chair, but he got it DONE, I was so pissed when they fired him… and I do think back then at least there were gains… Probably still are now depending on hardware… I’ve run Linux since the mid 90’s and have a Computer Science education and everything from back in the “You must compile your own LAMP stack” days and I have always found Gentoo too obscure to even try every time I try, and I have across three decades now. But I guess now that the Slackware+ of Arch is cool, it’s inevitable Gentoo will become a trend.

1·3 days agoI’m not losing any sleep over RCS, I assume that the state is just recording EVERYTHING sub-Signal-level paranoid (and possibly super) and act accordingly. Idk too many people who SMS these days, its mostly automated transactional shit from companies and I guarantee you none of those providers bother implementing RCS.

I hear that, but allegedly ground radar of the site from before China became China again showed that the mercury oceans around the Qin continents might be real, I want to believe it’s full on Indiana Jones shit, and you have all these Confucians drowned in a sea of mercury for failing to find him the elixir of immortality out on that irl sea

Palestine@lemmy.ml•"Peace, in their hands, is not the absence of war, it’s the rebranding of domination."
1·9 days agoYup, the ubermensch will not be defied. Is it more realistic that Caesar, Seleuceus, and Nebuchadnezzar were all “antisemites” OR is it more likely that the the death cult of Judaism, when exposed to the Levant, makes a subset of adherents go rabid, and there is no reasoning with them, which is why their cult has been thrice exiled from the space across millennia?

Palestine@lemmy.ml•Trump says Hamas will disarm or the US will force them 'perhaps violently'
2·9 days agoI love how this is always his move. Threaten to do the thing he’s currently doing like he’s not literally doing it already. Don’t elect democrats or I’ll invade your city with violent Confederate goons, don’t shutdown the government or I’ll layoff federal workers, don’t resist the genocide or I’ll genocide you…

14·9 days agoMastodon.social is about as “left” as lemmy.world, which is to say it’s the right flank of the democrat party.
I wouldn’t consider bitwarden normie since it’s a freemium self-hostable open source thing, not a single company’s service you just sign up for and then it has apps and extensions with no possible confusion if you google something about it.
ProtonPass is probably the least untrustworthy normie solution in 2025…

38·10 days agoYou’re thinking of hubs, not switches. Back in the 90’s everything was on hubs and every packet was broadcast to everything on the hub. Switches only send packets where they are going downstream. Also everything and its mom is TLS encrypted these days.
.ml mods are fine. Have you ever been on .world? Never criticize the blue MAGAs or the DNC consultant class over there or the democrat right mods will be RIGHT up your ass. Meanwhile hexbear has woke scolds like alaskaball enforcing pronouns and land acknowledgements in all posts. IMO .ml has the best mods of any major instance.

I mean, it’s pretty comparable. Vajrayana Buddhism is one latter sect of Buddhism and the Dalai Llama is its spiritual leader. Catholicism is a latter sect of Christianity that broke off after Nicea as a rebel Orthodox autocephalacy, and the Pope is its spiritual leader. If anything this represents a misconception of Catholicism’s role in Christianity as much as anything else… the numerical majority of Christians are no more Catholic than the numerical majority of Buddhists are Vajrayana.
