it wasn’t really a big deal as it was greatly overshadowed by the new coke debut which was around the same time. it got totally lost in the noise and part of me thinks that was by design–that part of new coke’s goal was to facilitate the change in sweetener. the ‘classic’ coke that emerged from the aftermath never did contain only sugar. the ‘original formula’ tagline on packaging and in adverts was a total lie.

you’re using plain html (with embedded css) and ‘installing’ it into the addon as a local file? all external files it references are web accessible?
is the browser caching those extra assets, so you’re not redownloading on every newtab (which if you’re like me, would be very frequently).
fwiw, i just use a blank page. it’s fastest. i’ve already got bookmarks sorted into folders on the bookmark toolbar, which is visible on newtab… and that’s what i use when i’m simply not just up in the address bar typing a letter or two to hit the history and bookmark search there.

transmission has been the default on so many gnome-based distributions for a very long time because of its gtk frontend… it also has a qt frontend, curses cli, daemon, windows qt build, and native mac versions…
qbittorrent also runs on more than just linux, but is qt. only qt. how many qt-only applications find their way into the default package set for gnome or gtk desktops released by debian, ubuntu, mint, fedora, redhat, suse, etc, etc.
