Comrades, pretty please give me your yummy yummy facts and anecdotes about the silent atrocities in your favorite countries.

I’m making this in light of CPC’s elimination of destitution in 2021 (by the standards of the 2 No Worries and 3 Guarantees) and thereby their largest source of social murder.

So far it looks like they’re the only ones to have accomplished this?

In Germany, the social safety net is designed to keep you alive but in poverty, which still results in visible destitute populations that experience social murder.

I have a huge blind spot in Central Asia, Russia and Africa. Please help.

Spitballing and guesswork is highly appreciated.

People do not really talk about the state of the Indian reservations in the United States. Not to mention they talk about racism and systematic racism, but do not mention how far it goes. They also forgot about the situation for America’s territories like Puerto Rico, United States Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

Yeah like America sterilized a 1/3 of the ENTIRE female population of Puerto Rico until like the 70s literally a forgotten genocide.

Yeah puerto ricans where used as the examplary of “poverty culture” where due to their inherent culture they would breed uncontrollably and imbue traits in their children which systematically stifle their ability to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” (it was literally called Operation Bootstrap) into higher education.

This was the era of “family planning” and neo-malthusian mania about India and Africa needing to institute a one-child policy or otherwise they would “eat up” the planet.

If you are interested (both you and OP) in a specific and brutal case of social murder within the context of indigenous americans I recommend Yellow Dirt by Judy Pasternak. It’s about how Navajos and their land were poisoned by Uranium mining.

Gabe Valdez, a New Mexico state trooper was looking into cattle mutilations in New Mexico in the 70s and talking about how he believed the government was mutilating cattle to test the after effects of radiation from Project Gasbuggy where they did a underground nuclear detonation in rural northwestern New Mexico.

It is worth noting this was in places in or near Native American reservations.

I’m not sure to what extent destitution is forced upon those living on reserves. I assume some enforcement mechanisms are in place there to restrict the economy. Do you have an idea?

Thousands of people die in the UK every year from a combination of having their disability benefits wrongfully stopped, appeals taking years in some cases, taking too long to receive their benefits and backpay, and being wrongfully awarded a lower amount than they should. Plus the fact that the amounts are just too low anyway. Some of them have died by starvation, such as Errol Graham and Mark Wood, because they’re vulnerable people who are unable to access help in this situation, some have died by suicide, such as Jody Whiting, because they could not see any way out after their benefits were stopped and due to various issues such as illness, mental health, and complete destitution, could not wait, potentially for years, for the outcome of an appeal. It’s a huge genocide against the disabled in the UK. I’d be one of them if not for the help I’ve received on here.

not really cultural advice but more of a gentle request, could your essay perhaps also focus on the aftermath of social death for those who can ”reintegrate”? i never see people talk about how it feels when youre technically no longer a drug addict or homeless but you still have the memories of people not even giving you eye contact and how it impacts your view of humanity in general. i think this could nail in how long lasting it is.

Absolutely. Recovering from destitution nominally isn’t nearly the same as being made whole again.

By social death I actually meant social murder here. Sorry for the confusion.

I can’t seem to find any official term for being made disabled by poverty, so I guess I’ll refer to it as social maiming. Do you have any specific anecdotes?
