background info (and a bit of an apology): im pretty sure that a comrade on here also confessed to this and i shunned them for it. this was because of my own shame and internalized moral panic. now that i am being more open about it i no longer feel the urge to shame others. i would like to apologize to this comrade and if you recognize yourself in my message please feel free to dm me if thats what u want.
some of our comrades subscribe to an openly genAI position and believe that friend AI chatbots will actually cure loneliness and social isolation. i oppose this belief and i want this thread to be a discussion about the bad effects of using this technology especially as a child. if you are pro genAI this might not be for you.
Because i asked the fucking human doctor and pharmacist about taking it and got a big fucking shrug, whatever, and my initial cursory search for additional information led me to think it was a fairly safe drug with no potential for that. I read that it had a very short half life before being out of my system. Guess what information was not on the printout.
I was not aware that it affected my CNS and how it interprets adrenaline on a much longer time frame. I thought muscle relaxers directly operated on my muscles.
I literally do not know what is wrong with you that you think I should have magicked this information out of the fucking aether and that Ive actually somehow done something wrong by finding this information via LLM
Literally shut up about what should have happened unless you’re going to say the doctor should have fucking informed me, christ
Im being harassed over finding factual and important information by ignorant rubes who are so ideologically committed to the belief that LLMs are bad that literal true information is seen as something I should throw away because of its source. I should actually be even more mean.
Edit: blocking you, and to the nerd who I already blocked: guess what dipshit, i looked up side effects and did not see that information, fucker!
What a mean person. This is going to ruin my day.
i’ve looked up side effects of every prescription drug i’ve ever been prescribed, guess i’m just built different.
Use WebMD or using basic web-searching skills would get you there and it would be much less likely that you would be given the wrong information. If we’re using anecdotes in terms of using ChatGPT for medical situations, I can tell you right now that as someone who forages and harvests psychedelic mushrooms that I was one of the people posting memes about ChatGPT looking at a liver-gooping mushroom and going “Hey, that’s safe!”
In a more specific case, I have used it in a very similar manner in looking at interactions between drugs before my partner who is experienced in pharmacology pointed out that the interaction (medicinal tea I can’t remember off the top of my head and a gabapentin) could actually cause serious breathing issues that ChatGPT was completely ignoring. You shouldn’t use ChatGPT for any medicinal advice, seriously. You successfully had the bot navigate the web and find official and safe advice. Next time, you may not be so lucky.
No, as someone who has had the same exact personal experience as you just with different conditions; I am telling you that you are going to fucking die, injure yourself or have unintended consequences if you keep relying on a LLM for medical advice of any kind or advice of similar urgency. I don’t actually give a fuck what happens to you and you’re free to block me if you don’t like my response. Just telling it how it is.
I apologize that your doctor didn’t have any compassion or consideration for your care.
When you say “printout”, was it something that came inside the medication or something the doctor gave you? Where I live, medications must by law come with a leaflet inside that would have this sort of information, but I don’t know if that’s how it works everywhere. A doctor could make the mistake of not telling a patient about it, but that info would be on the leaflet.
I’m asking because if it’s something that came with the medication’s leaflet, there might be a way to notify the company that it is missing (at least here there is).
