Independent leftwing media outlet the Canary has said it is unable to pay its staff after Lloyds Bank blocked access to “a substantial amount” of its money and refused to say why.

SIlly place to bank if you are politically active and not extremely conservative. Short-sighted to have most of the money in any one bank. Still seems wrong the bank stole their money and aren’t talking, though.

That’s horrible news to hear, but not surprised they would attempt to destroy them. The Canary (and Novaro) are basically the only 2 British news companies I find are at all trustworthy.

It they’re not explaining why then they’ve likely fallen fowl off anti money laundering laws. Maybe they’ve had some transactions with sanctioned accounts?

Or they’re being accused of supporting terrorist organizations because they don’t condone genocide.

Canary is a shit rag that mainly prints polemic, not fact (just like Novara) but that doesn’t mean they should be cut off from services like banking.

More serious politics should go in [email protected].

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
