Yeah I think that’s his backstory. There’s comic panels where Alfred straight up says he’s not Batman and he’ll kill people if he has to.

HBO did a three season show starring Alfred in a wildly stylized 1960s called Pennyworth. Was a pretty fun ride.
The only thing I know about that show is that they soft-retitled it in season 3 to be “Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler”.
I’m no Batman buff, but I think that’s a more recent version. In the older versions, he bordered on doddering, to the point where Batman had to keep him out of trouble.

Not to give The Gamers any benefit of the doubt, but (to me) the main reason the new GoW works is that it’s interesting to see Kratos live with all the shit he did in the previous games, so I think any character would have trouble replacing him.
Though, to be fair, after two giant ass games hammering that point, it got old.

If you for some reason liked Ragnarok’s story, I’m sure this game will be enjoyable for you.
