I’m not joking, maybe they know the capitol is Teheran and that the main language is Persian but that’s it.
It’s better known as Farsi rather than Persian. Many Afghanis also speak Farsi so it would be weird to say they speak “Persian” for example.
Though Farsi comes from the root of Fars, which is Persia in english, so it’s not that entirely incorrect.

Most people here have zero knowledge beyond the news (if that). I didn’t know anything about it at all (even that it used to be called Persia for example) until it caught my interest one day and I read up on it.
Tbf you can’t expect every person to be informed about every country, but that’s also a good reason why people on the other side of the world shouldn’t be meddling.
I mean, I’d sure as hell wanna know about a country we’d been trying to wage a war for the last 47 years.
That was part of why I eventually read up on it, but I assure you I’m a tiny minority in that regard. Most Americans see no problem with getting involved even with extremely little knowledge of a country.

Most Americans have no idea what the fuck Iran is, other than thinking that it is another random Muslim country. None of them know that Iran is the modern-day manifestation of historical Persia, a civilization that competed with the ancient Romans and won.
Iran has a real claim to the ‘civilization-state’ moniker like China.
I was talking to my uncle with an American wife, and my aunt really didnt seem aware of just how advanced Iran is from a scientific perspective. She wasn’t being intentionally obtuse eitheir, and actually thanked me for the information, but most Americans will be more pigheaded about this sorta thing.
I don’t get how a lot of these people both simultaneously believe Iran is on the verge of developing nuclear weapons, but is somehow also just like a completely underdeveloped 3rd world country without proper educational institutions.
Like, Iranians are fucking smart, I think anyone here whose actually met an Iranian likely learns that quickly, but for some reason the people who don’t just assume that your average Iranian in Iran isn’t capable of understanding advanced concepts.

Most Americans image of any middle eastern country is a bunch of people in “pajamas” herding goats and holding AK-47s. Yet they also have secret caves where they develop nuclear weapons. This is the propaganda machine at work. The enemy is both backwards and uncivilized yet they someone have the means to make weapons of mass destruction. They think of them as inbred barbarians who happened to also have the world’s most destructive weapons.
This is meant to terrify the population. To make them imagine some uncontrollable, belligerent force of uneducated masses that could up and destroy the world if they wanted to.
