Probably because her crime was one that we could all kind of see ourselves doing.

Plus, as far as I remember, she didn’t removed about it or try to blame everyone else.

Also probably since she isn’t a rapist making aggressively bigoted remarks every single day. Or a bunch of other things…

FYI: don’t lie to the IRS about cheating on your taxes. Rich people have tons of ways to avoid contributing to society. But if you lie to the IRS about it and they find out, you’re fucked.

Probably because her crime was one that we could all kind of see ourselves doing.

She was convicted on insider trading because she got insider information from the CEO ahead of an FDA ruling. This is some rich people bullshit so I’d contend most of us will never be in that position. She was also on the board of directors for the New York Stock Exchange so…

For Americans, it seems like the easiest way to do insider trading is to first get elected to Congress. Then you can do as much insider trading as you want!

I’d pay my fucking taxes and not screw over typical investors with insider trading. We’re not all scumbags.

You are totally right. I knew she was a top stockbroker when there were like 0 women in that role. But I didn’t know she was on the board:

          https://www.cbsnews.com/news/martha-stewart-quits-nyse-board/

She was way too financially sophisticated to have done such a basic stupid thing. Also, I believe she didn’t just plead out. I feel like anyone who did plead guilty would just get probation and be banned from trading securities for a few years.

That’s a death sentence for someone who works in finance but not for her. She sold magazines!

I feel like Martha Stewart could probably get elected president if she put her mind to it. Imagine the headlines, “President Stewart bakes delicious cookies for peace summit, all attending countries agree to sign legislation banning proliferation of WMDs”.
