So we need to shut people up who’s information we percieve will give us outcomes we don’t like? I guess the nazis gave that ago and if it worked for them I guess we should do the same. But if we have decided to live in a post-truth world of our own creation, how are we going to make an honest assessment of what true information is actually harmful. We could just be lying to ourselves about that too.
Here is a good rule of thumb. Never lie to yourself. Never hide from information. Anything else is just developing anti-intellectual habits.
It kind of reminds me of a quote from And Justice For All from Metallica. “Seeking no truth. Winning is all. Fighting so grim so true so real.”
When both sides frame what is true or false by what will help them win that that’s how you end up with a post truth world. Of course that can be easily corrected by lying to ourselves again and claiming that only one side has blame. There is nothing a lie to ourselves can’t fix.
The media won’t run wild with the idea that none of the parties have public approval when all media outlets work for at least one major political party or the other.
Why would party agents undermine the perceived legitimacy of the party they work for?
The intent of someone’s speech, or even its outcome, does not make it incorrect. A culture of hiding from reality thinking in doing so it will give us certain outcomes is what this practice will create.

9·21 days agoThat and the fact that genocide is infinitely more evil than terrorism. Terrorism isn’t good, but genocide can never be the response to terrorism. Because terrorism will always exist, and genocide never can. If genocide was an acceptable response to terrorism then there would be genocide every day, rather than never.

The important thing is she didn’t die from the Cartels. Do you know how many politicians have been taken out by cartels in the last year. Just recently in April down in Chipas a cartel got 538 politicians to resign all on the same day and murdered 38.
To be a politician in Mexico from any party you need blessings from the right people.

True, but the auth-left is really rabid for authority. Sometimes it’s not even very left but it’s some “trusted institution” and it’s “unamerican” to question it. I say question all power structures. Because if you can’t even question them you are in a bad place culturally.
When are people on both the right and left going to learn. There is no one in the middle east who’s values actually align with yours. So stop supporting a side and lets get our selves completely out of not our business.
Though genocide is our business so that’s the one time we should take a side.
But in everything else where we’ve taken a side it has been a mistake. Folk on all sides of the middle east project to the west an image they hope will garner sympathy in hopes we will fight wars for them and they can avoid fighting their own wars. “Genuineness” is a uniquely western thing to see as a positive value. Absolutely no culture in the middle east values presenting an honest image of themselves to us. The idea of that being socially positive or necessary for their own sense of ethics is literally foreign to them. I’m not trying to single out Muslim countries or Israel. What I’m saying is we in the west do in fact have values that are particular to us, and we need to stop imagining those values on others. That’s why the whole of the middle east is like that. Because they aren’t us.
Then the other thing we should understand is that all sides employ what are basically professional communicators who study our culture and use what they understand of it to manipulate us. So we get dragged into problems that aren’t ours and expose ourselves to actual security threats as a result.

Couldn’t that be said of Biden? I’m not trying to make this partisan but only trying to posit a hypothesis. Democratic processes do not select qualified people.
No. Not really. I think creating a post-truth world is more harmful. The way you get around the “harm” of true information is by encouraging people to process true information more maturely. Not by hiding it. There is no harm in truth by itself.
