Honestly, the first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture was that her son made her a crown, and she was proudly rockin’ it.

Thanks for the info. I’ll do some digging.
Edit: it’s very cool that you even asked!
If we’ve learned anything in Canada in the last 15 years, it’s that finding out about a culture before adopting it is kind of important.
Love this answer. :-)
Also, from the perspective of an outsider, your culture is far from dying. Here in Canada, we started down the long road of reconciling our history towards our Indigenous population a handful of years ago - and when we were in New Zealand, it felt like the country was a decade ahead of Canada. (which in turn is probably at least a decade ahead of the USA.)
There will be retrograde motion, and there will always be asshole xenophobic politicians; but it certainly felt like on the whole NZ was getting it more right than wrong.
2 is for 2-spirit; I’ve seen both 2 and 2S, but either way it refers to Indigenous 3rd-gender folks.
Let’s cut to the chase.
This bill, and many like it, are created with a clear purpose: to subjugate women. Harming the LGBTQ2+ community is almost secondary, since they can do that just fine already.
They’re terrorists.
Not activists, terrorists.
Sorry, but a shithead losing support doesn’t qualify as news.
I mean…no shit?
OK, I thought that was funny.
Cold watermelon soup with anise and cracked black pepper.
It was the appetizer to a meal that included duck breast smoked with lapsang souchong tea.
All of ot was outstanding.
More garbage linkspam. Time to block this spammer.
Can we please not turn this group into ads/sponsorship/shitposts?
It would be nice if there was some editorial restraint, rather rhan mindlessly posting every single article from eveey single gaming site.
Same as I’ve been saying for 25 years:
Fuck Sony, and fuck their anti-consumer practices.
Think about it: even if you can get a psn account and play without a problem, this is being done to exploit and commoditize you.
Fuck Sony.
He could, but ultimately he’s another evil psychopath who will protect his oen kind.
Wrong. Wrong wrong WRONG!
Theu didn’t fail! Getting on the ballot would have been nice for them, but it was a long shot and absolutely not going to pass.
This is just a shot across the bow - a first step towards socializing these changes in one of the most opposed states. They’ll keep at it for a few years and get on the ballot but fail. Then they’ll do it again and again, and gain traction at every step.
They’re ‘failing forward,’ relentlessly marching forward, and laughing when people cheer over a small (deliberate) stumble.
This isn’t good news, it’s TERRIFYING!
To try this in California shows just how confident they are in their goal; and they’re not wrong. Bills designed to deliberately and cruelly harm trans youth are getting written into law all over the world. They’re winning more than they’re losing.
This isn’t the time to celebrate, it is the time to ATTACK the bigots. Utterly destroy their means of harming vulnerable people. Make their hatred illegal, call out every single anti-LGBTQ2+ bigot who has been convicted of a crime. Scream their hypocrisy from the rooftops. Organize. Protest. Fight. Win. And then fight again, because that is sure as hell what they’re doing.
Microsoft needs this.
The OS is no longer your property.
Microsoft is not in the business of providing what users want from their computer.
I think I’d disagree with this.
For a while, there was a sense among the robber baron class that loyalty to employees would pay off with loyalty returned. Consider industrialists building towns for their employees and families, complete with schools and arenas.
Regardless of how cynical the reasoning may have been, the result was a degree of mutual loyalty and job security.
I’m sure it depends on the country. Here in Canada, you are gambling between safely importing an illegal firearm vs. an indictable offense which can lead to three years in jail (for the first gun). And that’s assuming the firearm is otherwise legal in Canada.
Obviously it happens - most handguns used in crimes in Canada are illegally smuggled in from the US. Just understand though, that you’d be setting yourself up for a world of hurt.
I was active - and I mean ACTIVE - on reddit for well over a decade. When the API fiasco happened, I deleted my mobile apps, and stuck to desktop. When ‘opt out of selling your data’ became impossible, I logged out for good.
Lemmy is both better and worse than reddit ever was. It will likely never reach the same activity level, but will also not reach the same toxicity.
