Unfortunately some stuff is important lol. I’ll check out marginalia but suspect it’ll be hard to find non evil-empire focused stuff

How do you all cope with the great ensloppification of the net when searching.
I usually limit to before 2022 but that’s increasingly out of date, fiddly, and not always accurate anyway. I just fucking hate getting a couple of paragraphs into something and realising it’s all fake.
And human work is buried in tides of garbage. It’s not like it was great the last few years BS (before slop) but it’s awful now

Ah yes, a torment nexus.

How Unitree democratized legged robotics
In the USA they are so brainwashed by capitalism they think democracy is when you can afford a product if you’re wealthy.

Aella Sankey chart
I’m really being tested on my liberation and sex positive values here. Gosh that’s a very weird and kinda gross thing to do.
What motivates someone to chart their fetish fulfillment?
Well whatever. I hope people had fun, seems like it must have been very scheduled and regimented though…

It was kinda wild studying physics while this was starting.
People were getting all these starry-eyed ideas while anyone actually doing well was realising that the future is going to look a lot like the present because god hates us and we’re not allowed nice things.

What’s entropy precious?

You’ll forgive me, I’m neither lobotmised nor a mathematician.
The poster wants to slop into existance a language for stacking logical statements on top of each other and testing/prooving truthiness but the statements are what? Physics rules?
And once you have this um magic world simulator from first principles (since it would have to be, because the thing about science is we need to do the experiments since we don’t know how things work fully) it will somehow stumble onto RTPSC materials?
K

Somehow word association will beat density functional theory to the punch for mapping out theoretical materials, lol. Alright.
I’ll believe that when pigs fly.

Not all PEDs come with horrible side effects. Caffeine can increase performance in some sports for the mild side effect of later fatigue and some excitability. However add money and fame to it and people will push it till there are some!

Pls don’t be clickbaity

Mate, literally the ancient Greeks wrote shit down about how tools shape behaviour.
In English we have “to the man with a hammer everything looks like a nail”. Nothing is neutral, you’re not that foolish you’re wishcasting.

We have, that’s the trick when people don’t define acronyms.
Artifical

Inflation

Capitalist: I’m gonna make a factory for feeding shit to the masses
Idiot: Comrades, we must contest the feeding-shit-to-the-masses industry by buying their shit and feeding it to ourselves.

It has been ages since I’ve read them but anathem is definitely his best work. I did really enjoy zodiac, snowcrash, and the cryptonomicon when I read them ~15 years ago though.
His books are always a bit libertarian (usa meaning, derogatory) although snowcrash is a very funny send up of what that might actually look like if adopted wholeheartedly so idk how much they can be said to endorse it wholeheartedly.
Some of it reminds me of the incoherence of Pratchett’s politics. A sort of “Just let smart people with good values do what they want and things will be ok” without establishing how you determine who that applies to or really sitting with how fragile that is.

Damn, imagine living in this world and being like “You know, those people who’d keep women chained to the house, kill the gays, force a state religion on people, and segregated society have some good points”

So I love Neal’s books, I think he’s a fun story-teller and anathems orbital mechanics scene has loads more tension than any slop in something like interstellar.
But whenever he gets involved in social-technological commentary I am reminded of Ursala Le Guinn’s remarks on SciFi authors being professional liars, not prophets.
Anyway, scour the submissions for little Lytton contest entrants
I’ve been learning how to make video games (exercise in remembering there are things I love about programming and it’s not all awful) and I got an attack animation on an enemy working :)
Haven’t been this into something since I was a young kid making physics simulations back in uni. Turns out software can actually be loads of fun when you’re not just processing bank transactions and shit.

The defensiveness that people have learned to write online with is truly a tragic marker of our times. It didn’t even cross my mind you would be pro-malaria.
I’m glad I studied when hyperphysics was top of the search results. Education now seems miserable.
