I don’t have to be thrilled about death to have a basic understanding of how basic our understanding of consciousness, biology, and neurology are. Nor to know how much the physical world resists making tiny machines and measurements necessary to explore these frontiers, or the ethical dilemmas involved in exploring how consciousness works that vastly slow and perhaps outright prevent answering questions like “can we replace little bits of someone with some machine we can maintain easier in the interest of prolonging them?”

• I think nation states anticipate this new wave of machine learning will enable unfathombly large surveillance and a new age of hurk cyber warfare.
• Some investors seem to believe that basically all fields will adopt “ai” with the same enthusiam and level as software. The film industry alone would need a hideous amount of computer hardware if that disturbing fantasy of everyone living in their own solipsistic culture bubble came to life.
• Humanoid robot wierdos are anticipating applying deep learning and computer vision to copy movements etc from humans with camera’s strapped to their faces (part of the reason glasses are being pushed again). Some of the anticipate enormous fleets of robots doing everything from manufacturing to warfare. This would need a lot of compute
• Nobody actually has any idea how to direct businesses or run nations, and a considerable amount of people at just following everyone else because everyone else can’t be wrong.

Oh also it’s entirely possible to make huge amounts of money in a bad idea as long as you get out first. I suspect a lot of investors and banks are anticipating being that person. Capitalism is hilarious.

It depends on how it plays. If thousands of people keep trying it for short periods of time the business model is less stupid than if a few hundred people play it nearly 24/7. Like are they spending 70 dollars per potential sale or 3?

Is an arc of play 3 hours or 60? etc.

Also just generally when people are being stupid it’s funnier to describe what they’re doing accurately.

We ran software that generates code associated with a particular task, in an environment that executes that code and can feed it’s outputs back into the software. We configured the environment to be open to the net at large, and ran the software with no oversight and without adequate security to prevent the running of malicious code.

In response the australian government has in the absolute strongest terms expressed that “this is very naughty” and “I am very dissapointed in you”.
