I dunno, but driving thru the insanely rich neighbourhoods definitely depresses me out.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL there's a whole genre of movies called Mockbusters, movies that bootleg the expensive originals.English
25·11 days agoBe Kind Rewind is a quirky movie where they end up making these Mockbusters. Don’t recommend if you don’t like Jack Black. Do recommend if you like Mos Def.

2·18 days agoNot answering your question exactly, but finding community (non-commercial) radio shows in your local area that you like is a good way to find new music. Find a few shows/presenters that play music/genres you like and they should play local artists that you might not have heard. They’ll also mention upcoming gigs etc.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-hosting in 2026 isn't about privacy anymore - it's about building resistance infrastructureEnglish
8·23 days agoI’m right there with ya. I’m thinking it might be a case of picking easy pieces (projects) of the puzzle to start with and then building from there. Like I’m considering setting a pi-hole soon - seems like an easier networking project. But yeah, I’m not really sure what’s the best order of eaiest to hardest projects in terms of self hosting etc.
Cornball was the Pangram in the NYT spelling bee the other day. This was my first thought.

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Accidentally range testing an electric motorcycle, and unexpected kindnessEnglish
2·2 months agoAwesome to hear!
Mechanical speedo mod sounds like a good idea. The screen on the Fonz was also tough to read in sunlight.
That acceleration saftey factor is defs a big one for me - though i would have thought most Emotos would be great for sub-50km/h filtering. I’m more concerned about highways, when a truck decides to merge into me.
Yeah, Zero have been a bit messy lately. I got given a contact for a guy that has something to do with repairing them 😅 so I need to follow up on that.
I have a spreadsheet to compare bikes and the Braaaps value/specs for money is very appealing, but yeah I get sketched out by the company a bit haha.
I also realised that the chain guard may be there purely to comply with ADR laws - so may be dumb laws, not design.

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Accidentally range testing an electric motorcycle, and unexpected kindnessEnglish
1·2 months agoYeah, people can be legends. Once had a family invite me for a cooked breaky while I was solo moto camping on the cheap. Super nice.
Apart from useless chain guards, how do you like the Braaap Emoto? Which model? I’m hoping to make the switch to electric kinda asap~
Test rode the Savic (too $$$) and a Fonz Z series (fun azzz, but a bit lacking). Need to get on a Zero soon and maybe get one 2nd hand.

11·2 months agoYou can get good 2nd hand cook books for insanely cheap (compared to new) from op shops/thrift. It’s one of a few things that are still decent value on the 2nd hand market.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite song by your favourite band/artist?
3·3 months agoYa that’s a good one. Still give that album 10/10 tho.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite song by your favourite band/artist?
1·3 months agoModest Mouse - Pistol
It’s a classic song to hate on by fans. I don’t mind it now, but it’s pretty abrasive.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughs about YouTube clickbait?
8·3 months agoYoutube video titles that have been really bugging me lately (as they have become increasingly common) are the weirdly negative ones. Like, “THIS is why you suck at >insert your hobby here<”. It’s annoying because the video could raise a good point, but fuck, dont frame it by negging me. If I’m searching for videos on that topic, I want help, not put-downs.

Alternative Nation: The Fediverse's Alternative and Indie Music Community@lemmy.world•boygenius - Satanist
2·4 months agoReally like this tune! The grungey production reminded me a lot of the Aussie band, Violent Soho. Not something I would have expected from the trio.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies were ubiquitous ten years ago and are much less common now?
1·4 months agoFair point about the sprongs. But. Coz phones are so big, when phone+dongle is in my pocket it often puts a lot of pressure on the USB. Which A, doesnt seem good and B, can easily cause the jack to very slightly disconnect and pause the song. Also, when the sprongs fail on the dongle it starts doing crazy shit like play/pausing song or adjusting volume.
I’d need to buy like 3 more dongles in that case…
I’d much rather just have an audio jack on my phone.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies were ubiquitous ten years ago and are much less common now?
3·4 months agoDid that. Still annoying. Have to bring it everywhere. Will wear out the Usb C jack faster (pretty hard to wear out an audio jack tho). Can’t charge and listen to audio.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies were ubiquitous ten years ago and are much less common now?
12·4 months agoI compared a tonne of flagship smart phones not that long ago. The Sony Xperia series was the only one to still have an audio jack. They’re quite expensive tho, so ended up with a phone sans the jack. I miss it dearly.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Will your next EV have a solid-state battery — and improved performance?
5·4 months agoDo they have better energy density than current tech?
Edit: googled it. Yes. Around twice as energy dense as Li-ion.

Sports clubs and hobby clubs for sure. In Australia we have clubs called Men’s* Sheds that are for things like woodworking, but also a place to talk about mental health - things like loneliness. (*I don’t think they’re all so exclusively Men’s sheds these days).
I play disc golf and that sometime feels like a church haha. Trying tk convince people it’s an awesome sport amd get them to try it feels like trying to convert someone 😂
