  • From wikipedia:

Fitting with her statements that The Handmaid’s Tale is a work of speculative fiction, not science fiction, Atwood’s novel offers a satirical view of various social, political, and religious trends of the United States in the 1980s. Her motivation for writing the novel was her belief that in the 1980s, the religious right was discussing what they would do with/to women if they took power, including the Moral Majority, the Christian Coalition, and the Ronald Reagan administration.[12][failed verification] Atwood questions what would happen if these trends, and especially “casually held attitudes about women” were taken to their logical end.[13]

    The plot intro:

After a staged attack that killed the President of the United States and most of Congress, a radical political group called the “Sons of Jacob” uses theonomic ideology to launch a revolution.[8] The United States Constitution is suspended, newspapers are censored, and what was formerly the United States of America is changed into a military dictatorship known as the Republic of Gilead. The new regime moves quickly to consolidate its power, overtaking all other religious groups, including Christian denominations.

The regime reorganizes society using a peculiar interpretation of some Old Testament ideas, and a new militarized, hierarchical model of social and religious fanaticism among its newly created social classes. One of the most significant changes is the limitation of women’s rights. Women become the lowest-ranking class and are not allowed to own money or property, or to read and write. Most significantly, women are deprived of control over their own reproductive functions. Though the regime controls most of the country, there are various rebel groups that are still active.

  • The protocol isn’t even the issue, banks already use XRP.

It’s the fact that USD is propped up by Uncle Sam’s globalized monopoly which is kept in tip top shape by geopolitical power.

Everyone trades in USD because it’s the de facto currency and it’s stable because the government can abuse its power to keep it that way.

No one trusts the value of the Ruble, Yuan, Rupee, or even any other currency except for maybe the Euro. They all exist for internal use, which means its just gets compared in value to USD whenever you have to deal with anything external, which is all the time.

BRICS would only fly if a stable trade medium can rapidly prove its worth with market stress and trade requirement, otherwise everyone will just continue to use USD, hence why the USA doesn’t currently view it as much of a threat. And even if you could get countries on board, the US can hold on to a massive noose around everyone’s neck by refusing to trade in anything but USD, which would effectively shut you off from trading with a massive portion of US based/owned/partner companies.

  • This story reminds me a lot of a cornerstore Deli in the ghetto side of (capital city of southern state).

It is run by a Bengali dude with two Arab cooks and an African American local. The name is likely ripped from a famous NY sandwich shop, but no one actually knows that.

The Arabs make most of the sandwiches and the African American specializes in salads.

You’ll usually find the two Arabs reciting out loud while they cook, everyone seems to know everyone, and the Bengali is running the cash register and rejecting phony bills.

The outside looks like a crackhouse warzone but the inside is an oasis lol. Always busy with people buying food or cornerstore items.

Objectively the best place in the city to get a philly sub, but you’ll never see anyone mention it outside of the ghetto area.

Point being that if someone asked me what defines America, I’d probably point to that place.

  • I’m pretty sure the most accurate poll so far has been the nickelodeon kids poll because it’s technically a side channel info dump since kids would actually want to participate and they typically represent their parents’ views.

It was 52-48 in Harris’s favor.

The Kids Pick the President “Kids’ Vote” is an informal non-scientific poll, meant for entertainment purposes only.

Either that or they fudged the results to keep parents happy lmao

  • Actually no, it’s just that the programs on Linux usually accept SIGINT, SIGTERM, etc pretty gracefully. Some are even smart enough to handle it on a thread hang. SIGKILL is last resort.

Lots of Windows applications like to ignore the close request because Windows doesn’t have signals and instead you can only pass a window name to request exit which is the same as clicking the close button.

So any hung software won’t respond and you have to terminate it.

  • Okay for starters Hezbollah is Lebanon’s militant group that has nothing to do directly with Hamas & Palestine aside from being loose allies.

More importantly though, Hamas was elected into power in Gaza, they are the local government.

Putting “Hamas run” in front of anything would be like saying “Democratic run USA”, it’s been overwhelmingly used as a way to discredit Gaza in reporting.

Most international sources have said that the ministry’s statistics are accurate, including both the UN and WHO. If anything they actually stated it is underreported because it doesn’t include estimates from starvation and inaccessible/lost bodies (ie no confirmation).

And no their endgame isn’t world outrage, Israel actually did a pretty good job of preventing that for 70+ years. They’re just Palestinians who want their land back after being shoved into an open air prison for existing.
