Right on, nice job! My setup is permanent, though I understand that you may be happier using a more typical remote rather than a wireless keyboard. I’m used to it after quite some years, but I think there may be a combo of Linux interface and special remote out there for a less ‘computery’ experience.

I have a small Linux computer hooked up to my big TV. You can probably find one for very cheap or maybe even free if you scrounge around. Mine runs a full desktop, which I control with a wireless keyboard (has a touchpad). I will caution against getting one of those android “super box” things that are loaded with access to free streams. They are filled with all kinds of junk that runs in the background, including code from an Israeli company that uses your internet as a ‘residential proxy’ for all manner of shady shit.

Maybe a menu projected onto the table? Or a digital display at the table? Those are probably worse from an environmental standpoint than laminated paper. There’s just no way to put a menu on my phone that isn’t less convenient to me. Tracking is of secondary concern to me in this context (though I do prefer cash) since cellular/WiFi/Bluetooth/cameras already know I’m in that restaurant. Otherwise, I just prefer the human interaction. I made the choice to leave my home/hotel to eat in a restaurant. I frequently also have questions or special requests that I can’t communicate through a website or app.

I hate this shit too. I just prefer a physical menu rather than clicking through a couple links, and having to scroll and zoom in on items. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

These companies are all racing to dominate the market. Eventually one will win, largely through government contracts. Then all the infrastructure will be used to further propagandize, kill and spy on us.
