I agree. HDD to SSD was a huge leap. NVME was a small, sometimes noticable upgrade. Past that, I can’t tell a difference. And it’s hard to get excited about the hardware updates when the software can’t use it.

I have never once been about to tell a real world difference in SSD speeds. Until OS I/O code improves, faster SSDs don’t excite me.

I’m on Aurora. I don’t have to use rpm-ostree (bootc in the future). I can use it, but I don’t have to. Most of my software needs are covered by flatpak and homebrew. I also don’t have to update packages in my distrobox containers. Those are managed for me, too.

I love tinkering with stuff, but updating packages is nothing more than a chore. I’d rather be doing the fun stuff.

Cast iron for sure works and I’m pretty sure carbon steel does, too. If a magnet sticks to it, it works.

They are garbage for heat control if you use them the same way you would a gas or induction stove. If you learn how to use one, resistive electric stoves cook just fine.

Ok, I’m back from my walk and it didn’t help at all. In fact, I’m even madder.

Para social relationships are hard. You think you get to know someone over the years watching their videos. I would even watch the videos he would put on his daughter’s channel. The videos of him just cooking.

I thought he was a smart guy even with some of his gruff persona.

Oddly enough, one of the first cracks in that facade was a BOLTR video taking apart a Hitachi wand or knockoff. He was so weirdly prudish about the idea of a woman actually using one in a way that didn’t feel like a joke. But I convinced myself it was probably a joke, because…why would he be weird about that?

But the trucker protest videos hit me like a cement truck. It actually really bummed me out. I texted my dad and he said something to the effect of, “Oh well, his videos have been shit anyway.”

I have a similar Plasma 6.3 issue. I use a software KVM to control my work laptop. Now I get a pop-up notification when my controls are being captured and sent to the other computer. Yeah, I know I’m doing that, it’s deliberate. I’ve been using a software KVM for 8 years. No way to turn it off that I can find that doesn’t also turn off all pop-up notifications.
