I think free speech absolutism leads to tolerating the intolerant, which just doesn’t work when you are dealing with imperfect primate neurological evolution. People experience the uncaring universe, and our brains struggle to identify the complex and nuanced systems at the root of strife, causing them to look for simpler answers (Jewish space lasers vs. incomprehensible market interactions that over-exploit delicate ecosystems causing droughts). Our brains are set up to tackle problems at smaller scales, and what better way than scapegoating can you reduce a root cause to be more manageable? Mental gymnastics only have to be done once.

You can educate most people to equip them to defeat neo-nazi rhetoric logically, but humans cannot be programmed with the right answers and society will always produce some fuck-ups. Is it easier to prevent a new member of a hate group by banning their ideas, or let them ruin an innocent life and attempt to rehab them after?

Gonna preface this by saying this is not my worst, or really even a bad experience. We were in a 69 with her on top. I was getting into it and wrapped my arms around her waist, squeezing her down on me. This was just the right amount of pressure to squeak a little fart out of her, which made me giggle while still firmly planting my face in the fun zone. The sensation of me giggling made her tense up, ripping a fat one right in my face. I pulled my face away so I could laugh harder, but that made me gasp through my mouth, and I cough while yelling “OH GOD IT’S IN MY MOUTH!” We are both dying from laughing so hard, but a moment later she suddenly says “LET ME UP” in a really panicked tone and runs to the bathroom. I really like the way Ameliorated/AME Wizard handles the debloating. You take a Windows ISO and install like usual, then run AME with a playbook (like AtlasOS), which strips out the bloat through a collection of scripts . AME Wizard is open source, and you can directly inspect all the scripts within the playbook, whereas Tiny11 is a whole ISO that is hard to verify. Not saying that I can personally vouch that it is completely trustworthy, as I have only taken a brief look at the code and scripts, but I like to have the option. It also means that I could modify out any changes I don’t like.

I found out about AME Wizard when I had to reformat a MiPad2 tablet with 2gb of RAM, and so far it has worked better than when the tablet was new. The only downside is that you go through the full Win 11 install, so you need enough available space and then reclaim the wasted space after, but it is at least mostly automated.

Infrastructure needs depend on how the car is used. I have a basic level 1 charger (120v/15a household outlet) and so far have used public chargers zero times. There has only been one time where I didn’t have enough charge for back to back trips to the next major city over, and had to rely on our second (ICE) car. Could have been avoided with a better charger. I have been hitting ~700 miles per month. One thing to keep in mind is that you just need enough charge to get to your destination and back. Going to the gas station is a big hassle so you are used to always filling up from empty. With the EV, my house is my refill station, so I just connect the cord every time I park. Even after a long trip where the car is near empty, charging slowly for 2 hours is enough for a quick errand. I’ll admit that I would have some charging anxiety if I only had the EV with no backup, but practically speaking it just doesn’t become an issue. Just keep enough charge to make it to the nearest hospital, and get a level 2 charger (240v/>=32amp) for almost 4x the charging rate.

Quite the opposite. Society has been moving up hill this whole time, with downhill slides now and then. Climate change is possibly the worst slide, but the ones who make it the worst are dying off as their generation hits the end of their life expectancy. Gen Z and younger have very different priorities from the older generations. Millennials lean similarly, are building political power and hopefully fast enough to prevent the worst of Gen X from following in their predecessors’ footsteps. Society isn’t going to vanish just because sea levels rise. Society is near-global now, something that has never happened before; it is not comparable to some hunter-gatherer band that over-hunted their food supply.

After the collapse of modern society happens on a global scale, I will apologize to you in person. Otherwise, we can presume I am right and humans are going to go on forever. It’s not going to be a comfortable ride for most, but our species is going to reach the point where the ones standing in the way of progress are no longer wielding the most power. At least long enough to get the worst threats handled.

Unlikely. Wikipedia can be backed up on a thumb drive, and millions of various storage media are being produced every year, perhaps into perpetuity. The damaged media are replaced faster than they break. Even something as cataclysmic as Chicxulub isn’t going to wipe all of them, and probably not even all humans who will continue carrying the content forward. We are the species best suited for eternal preservation so far as we know.
