  • With US Unions being that strong its dumb to not join one. My country dictates which union you may join and the negotiated wages are laughable. It’s just for show. Last time a train union tried to strike, government TV started to discuss if the union boss should be jailed. However small niche unions are very successfull because paying members have a common goal. Hard to align a software dev with a cashier’s goals…

  • Anectdotical, my comp, 1000+ employees is saving 5% p.a. in germany (reducing personnel) and creating a new HQ in poland.

I think political insecurity is a driving factor. Politicians left and right are making more extreme claims every week and there is no middle anymore.

Also german law/guidelines and enforcements. The GDPR authority eyes german companies very closely. Its easy to hold you accountable if your assets are in the same country, same city as the authority office even. Harder to do if they are in another country. Poland is known to ignore eu law even. i feel like my comp is eyed more closely than meta and google just because of this. This is the same with Antitrust laws, consumer protection and their whole cease-and-desist industry. I get these are good laws but i feel like they are only applied to german companies. Noone cares about Amazon, Temu… but as a german comp you have the ever tangling sword of damocles above your head.

  • Old Oil mining rigs are known to be used for that. Other than that, as long your IP is sufficiently masked it doesnt matter if your servers are prominent or hidden in a bunker. Noone knows whats inside besides operators.

However, i think they broke TOR’s vpn ip masking by analysing traffic patterns on network nodes. So if they really wanna catch you, you are better somewhere they have no way of coming close. Think russia or other countries not too friendly with usa and not giving a flying fuck about copyright. The physical location of servers that is. The admin could sit comfy in the usa.

Also you could have the data encrypted on an AWS bucket but the server decrypting that should be more secure. Not sure how much traffic those sites have but that could ease the strain of on premise infrastructure you have to maintain.
