  • Predator catching channels are important. Should not be censored. Just cause a few channel might had been acting fascist like towards minorities with intention to degrade trans people. Which from many of the channels I seen, they seem to be strictly going after adults going after minors on the internet. If any are intentionally going after just trans people or other minorities just because, they use it as an excuse to harass it’s rare.

Are there even any actual specific channels and videos that even point out that something like this is even happening in these predator catching movements?

I will meet you some of you here. If they are not working with law enforcement and are just harassing people, that is not ok. I’m against this narative that’s going against predator catching channels as a whole because it is so out of touch with reality. Instead of calling a whole movement violent, call out the 'specific" offending channel. If you can’t do that, what does that say about your narative.

Anyone that thinks that they should all* be censored, get ready to censor gaming channels and played heavily while you’re at it. Plenty of gamers online said some rascist, and homophobic things. I’m not changing my mind on this.

  • I don’t know why they targeted your post over you talking about your experience, or personal perspective. While it seems like you’re just going off of your perspective, or personal experience. They go onto your post dismissing your post and just trying to be better than you. Which is a toxic behavior. Especially if it is repetititve.

Now if it was a one time thing, maybe I would had said, well maybe they might not had meant anything but you showed a number of encounteres form this user.

Had you reporting all his accounts to the specific instance they are on? About their behavior toward you?

  • Not sure about Lemmy specifically, but on a similar federation platform, Mastodon blocking a user does prevent interaction. I’m assuming the same on Lemmy. If they do find a way to get through the block, whether through an alt or just dancing around the system, that might be some kind of stalking and harassment, since this post clearly states you don’t want to be around them due to following you around. They know what they are doing.

I don’t know the user personally, but I can tell from what you provided they are very aware. I would recommend to not feed them, or any other trolls, this is what feed the trolls, it’s what they want.

  • Another way to look at the blahaj guidelines,

Not all laws are strictly like one way rules, hadn’t you ever heard of vague laws op? I might be stretching it, but vague laws happen to act more like guidelines in practice. So even these government laws that you are using for your perceived benefit for your push of change, doesn’t 100% align with your claims and what you are wanting from the mod team of this instance.

In most cases I know laws are more like rules, but vague laws do exist. What the mods are presenting are like vague laws. But really, most of it is really just common sense, just put two pieces to the puzzle together it’s easy to avoid doing the wrong thing. Most of the puzzle is already in front of you, and then you just use some common sense thinking, and research.

With anything that isn’t 100% definent, you need to look at the road before you cross, you need to read signs, you need to research what they are telling you is expected, as is written. This interpretation, that is open up is really just, a common sense view where they can just look at a given scenario and just moderate based on that.

  • When I first joined I didn’t think much of “rules vs principles.” But this thread did give me some perspective of using more principles, rather then specific rules. It just makes it easier to moderate, and not having to worry about forgetting to list something specific in the rules when taking down bad posts and banning hateful users. If you used rules, and a user did a bad thing and wasn’t covered, or even hinted at as being covered they could claim something negative against the enforcers. For enforcing rules not written. (seems like what they are wanting.)

Principles with some examples of what might be covered, is better. I wasn’t thinking anything about it personally, when just joining the instance and reading them. One of the first posts I seen on here was this one, and I was like, "hey op, you are trying to sound like you’re trying to making sense, like saying ‘hey we need more rules.’ But just looking through the server, seems peacefully as is, no complaints as a new user. Not as familiar with longer term activity on the server.

You might maybe want to add some principles that basically say, don’t break laws in the instance’s hosted country, which might be reasonable idk, but that’s probably the only thing if anything I would suggest to add ontop of the principles, just to cover yourself legally, but probably won’t even have to do that as the community seems to do good on its own managing itself. Which suggests that this approach is actually working, and it stops the trolls.

  • On another note: Since op mentioned about the understanding of the rules. Let’s assume you didn’t know anything at all about what any of this means. The guidelines and all. You can still kinda see what the guidelines are hinting at for expected users behavior.

You can easily Google (or an alternative) for specific terms and phrases in the guidelines that are before you on your screen for more context.

Most users in the comments of this post seem to understand these guidelines, or not have an issue with them as they currently are presented. Yet, if you are personally struggling to grasp the meaning of the guidelines, use your internet, research, learn, grow. That is how you can learn the way of the guidelines. If you do have any further questions regarding the clarity of the guidelines i’l entertain them, but make sure you respect the guidelines of the instance. I’m not mod or anything, but here to help someone who’s struggling and is asking for support.
