3·9 days agoPandora has always been my go to, but it’s a different enough user experience that I didn’t like Spotify when I tried it years ago.

Point thoroughly taken, thank you for changing my mind.
we’re already having a problem of not getting enough new users
Why is this a problem? Right now lemmy is small enough to mostly not draw attention from bots. It’s also small enough that blocking people can actually shape the type of comments you see.

3·12 days agoPersonally I enjoyed riding without all the gadgets way more, but I do see the appeal.
Yet when I tell that to our marketing department they just complain about how it would be expensive to pay someone to do it themselves. You get what you pay for, except in this instance where ai is expensive and still bad.

6·1 month agoIf they lived in the artic they’d be white.
To expand on this, if they lived in the arctic, there would be “selection pressure” in the form of either reduced hunting success for predators or increased predation for prey species. That selection pressure is really all that evolution is: being more likely to succeed and pass on your genes.

politics @lemmy.world•US House to vote on bill to make daylight saving time permanent
15·1 month agoThis is my vote. If we’re going to mess with the clocks, let’s REALLY mess with them. I guess not messing with them would also be okay, though.
What about planting something else that they’ll eat like hop tree? Obviously that’s not much of an immediate solution, though.
To answer your original question, it’s always a balancing act. I love all kinds of butterflies and moths, but an asp on plants near my front door still had to go. They turn into the southern flannel moth, but as caterpillars are capable of a very painful sting.
PlantJam@lemmy.worldtoHome Improvement@lemmy.world•Water softener sat for 6 months to a year. should it be ok to just add salt to it?
6·1 month agoSalt is cheap enough that I would just rinse it out and try it. If it doesn’t soften, try adding iron out (cheap and easy, instructions on the package are fine). I inherited a softener that was unplugged and apparently not working. I followed these steps and after the iron out treatment it works great.
My house had zero landscape plants when I bought it. Now it has several hundred. In a couple areas, I planted host plants just for caterpillars to eat, and am growing more from seed to have even more host plants. I’m even considering a native citrus specifically to attract swallowtail butterflies.
All that to say, your tree will be fine, even if it looks a little ragged.

pics@lemmy.world•[OC] Every seed of a sunflower is also a flower
45·1 month agoThese are called disc flowers, and the outside “petals” are ray flowers. Some species have only ray flowers, like dandelions, and some have only disc flowers like some thistles. The botanical term for the whole “flower” (or any group of flowers) is an inflorescence.

I regret to inform you that you have missed the joke.
