Except you know, all the cities that already do for taxis, which is what Uber is, regardless of how it tries to skirt around it. Get a taxi, the rate is literally posted on the side of the vehicle. Yes, taxis certainly have their own issues, but it’s a sure whole lot more honest than Uber pricing, and that’s the bottom of the barrel.

Everyone can buy storage, but for some reason the majority think its easier and cheaper to buy in the cloud. Hell, you could go to the store and purchase a movie, but many still think seeing them in a theatre, or you know, streaming them are a better option. You say LLMs have no business opportunity which seems to show the failure of your thinking.

I think you would be ignoring the ethics of the energy used and costs of getting off the planet as well. May be more ethical and cheaper to take those funds and reinvest in making the earth a better place rather than leaving it.

Why? There are plenty of reasons. If Earth is the only place that ever will be habitable or the only place ‘we’ are stuck on, there will come a point where that’s going to be a massive problem, and it seems that time is coming pretty quickly. So figuring out how to explore and expand just beyond earth would be pretty important to the long term survival of the species.

Probably just as ethical as Europeans coming to North America and taking over native land and exploiting it’s resources for personal gain as the cost of the environment and the people already living there, but ethics gets tricky when you really think about it.

I don’t think the logical answer is ‘robots’. Humans are cheap and always have been, and it’s easy to make more. That’s the basis of human civilization for 500,000+ years. Expand, strip resources, and expand more. As we destroy this planet, we either find somewhere else to do the same, or perish as a species. Could you go the other way and limit resource exploitation, limit consumerism, limit unfettered reproduction? Sure. But that’s not happening.

You aren’t separating hardware/training costs and costs when the models are developed. Ask the Chinese how thats working out for them, and one of many reasons why their models are so much cheaper.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense. Just because everyone can use Word doesn’t mean you can’t make a business using it. Oh no, everyone has calculators, guess you can’t have a business that uses calculators. Businesses and people in general use the best tools available for the job, which might be pencil and paper, or eventually an LLM.

Google seems to be figuring it out pretty quickly. Getting easier and better to simply use Gemini than it is to actually use Google’s search. That’s been the tech idea for years. Come in quick and disruptive, make it cheap on someone else’s back, and then when people are hooked, wrack up the costs.

I mean if you were an economist you’d know exactly why AI companies are making massive profits, because its more profitable to sell shovels during the gold rush than it is to find gold. Doesn’t mean gold is worthless and not profitable, it’s pretty basic economics, but you know that already.

But then aren’t there just different tasks to do? VisiCalc and Excel didn’t make accountants irrelevant.
