I love this narrative that space colonization is about getting the “elite” off Earth after they’ve supposedly ruined it, leaving the rest of us behind. And then what? Are the elite going to sit inside a tiny capsule on Mars for the rest of their lives, eating potatoes and drinking recycled urine?

If an asteroid were about to impact Earth and I had to choose between the elite escaping to another planet or humanity going extinct, I’d gladly let the elite survive to restart civilization elsewhere.

What would be an example of this? It’s not obvious to me that by simply voting in a manner that benefits “the rich” then also means it’s against your own interests. When someone gains something it doesn’t mean I must lose something in exchange.

Both of them. I take this kinds of things really hard and it takes me months to recover. I really hope I wouldn’t need to go thru that ever again.

Probably a large scale conventional missile strike on Russian military targets Putin himself being the number one priority. He knows that the western intelligence agencies know his whereabouts at all times so unless he’s going to live in a bunker for the rest of his life he knows that nuclear strike will literally be a suicide.

Well this is what I mean. Either what he did is not good or if it is, he didn’t have any meaningful part in it.

Very few things are all good or all bad but I see this as a net-positive thing, or for the very least, step in the right direction.

I have a good friend like this. He says quite extreme things like that from time to time. I don’t attack him for it. Instead we talk about it. I ask him questions, share my view on the matter etc. more often than not he then walks back what he said and openly admits that he shouldn’t generalize and understands that the few bad apples he has had to deal with don’t represent the majority.

People change. I did too. I used to say horrible things about gay people myself too when I was younger. Then I grew up and realized I’d actually like to have some of that dick too.

Your friend on the other hand probably only holds down to those beliefs even stronger now because of how you reacted. These are the people who vote for Trump to “screw with the libs”

Idk one side wants to enslave, murder, and rape. The other does not.

One side has empathy. The other does not.

You generalized as if everyone on the left has empathy and no one on the right does. That’s simply not true. Group differences like this are often larger within the group than between them. While it might be true that, on average, people on the right are less empathetic than those on the left, it’s neither fair nor accurate to imply that one side has empathy and the other doesn’t.

The world is not binary like that. Your side is not all good and the other side is not all bad.
