I failed to take in the rest of this, after the second frame induced a loud ringing, like I’d just been hit by a flashbang of “the boy who cried wolf”.

3·3 days agoI can understand that. It didn’t bother me as much. The singing episode …

Glad I didn’t go further.
Corroborating
Then it’s not just faster, it’s broader, deeper and further, than narrow metric matching of industrial “educations”'s specialisation’s maximal-ignorance-bar-one; than is sought in employment roles that simply seek a degree. [Which I’m given to understand is increasingly the type of adaptive polymathy sought in many endeavours.]
and such, I’ve come across https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akj4EGPiQEY … interesting for anyone interested in pedagogy and psychology and sociology and so on. Johan Hari on Peter McCormack, “We Built A World Humans Aren’t Designed For”.
It seems like awareness of this is increasing,
and shall increase even more as the mismatch of provision and needs widens as ai and robots increasingly take up more and more of what industrial education had been conditioning us to be the robots for. Our robotification shall become farther out of reach of worth, into redundancy, revealing our real worth.
Johan Hari puts it better than my mangled clumsy verbosity.
So it’s like that line from Good Will Hunting: “You wasted $150,000 on an education you coulda got for $1.50 in late fees at the public library.”

7·3 days agoOh please. Surely we’re of better moral character than the Q already [On the bridge of the Enterprise D]. At least by example of the mischievous loud one most seen. We can do far better at aiming high, than to aspire to Q. … “What was it they called you on Brax, the god of lies?”

2·3 days agoI enjoy Strange New Worlds fo
I’ve never managed to get that far. Because (like is stated and elaborated upon in the original post)…
The entire universe feels different.
Breaking coherence very early on in the first episode, to such an extreme, I cannot bring myself to carry on watching. It’s like someone forgot the brief on what and who Vulcans are, what their culture’s like, and did not pass it on to writers, directors, nor actors.

10·3 days agoPart way reading through that, I began to wonder, the when, and what was happening then, …
It seems, Trek lost its way in this moral regard, after Voyager, …so, after 2001. 2001… so, after the PNAC plan kicked into action with their unifying false flag terror attack?
Can’t help also wonder about maybe the slippage had already begun earlier… perhaps, showing the fringe of the federation, evoked, in a “what if all art a tool of manifestation” sense, sanctuary districts. Overdue mends… Where’s our Bell?
And as I near the end, I think of the pale moonlight, and yup, you rightly mention it too. … It’s haunting, as Sisko closes the episode, trying to convince himself he is okay with it. New fake trek would have just blasted past that like it was nothing of consideration at all.
I’m glad there are others who see this too, and can put it to words as well as you have there. Good stuff. Maybe we who care about the essence of trek can revive trek. … I’ve already got various notes taken for an outline for a new trek in the same spirit as TNG, DS9 and VOY, accumulating over years. I wont be the only one. … How long before some start to churn it out via LLM? [Edit: <- Oh look, that’d be like thinking the ends justify the means.] I’d rather make it for real.
All the whitewashing narcissistic sadistic psychopathic machiavelianism, as seen in the fake trek (especially the most recent), is clearly not star trek.
The older Star Trek made an extraordinary effort to maintain coherence.
Character coherence.
Ethical coherence.
Political coherence.
And even scientific coherence, as far as science fiction could reasonably achieve it.
And it can be again. :)
Make it so.
Yeah for sure there’s a mix, different usecases, and it’s just handy to illustrate the other extremes, to elucidate others of the existence of these other paradigms otherwise beyond their ken. Some of them may indeed likewise have been a star shaped peg trying to fit in a square shaped hole, not realising there are ways that fit them better.

2·3 days agoI know for a fact that if I was a parent I wouldn’t want my kids near that crap.
Yeah, it’d be some kind of non-mamalian (let alone inhuman) approach, to let your offspring freely frolic in dire dangers, and not actively protect and educate them. Roads. Crocodile infested rivers. Corporate “Social Media”.

3·3 days agoEven after explaining what I would have done to them,
with that data, if I had the data, when I worked in advertising… [or even just explaining their basic human dignity of privacy]… the rhetoric remains strong enough to not have the cognitive dissonance be itchy enough to stop fallaciously repeating their mantra “nothing to hide”,
… and so that’s why they’re fine with this dystopian nightmare, this single point of failure, this hijacking of humanity by totalitarian government (or at least just megalomaniacal parasites wanting total dominating control, even in banal mundane petty ways, like just doing their job, serving their client as best they can, maximally manipulating mentalities to maximise wealth extraction)?
It does not make sense.
As for who’s on social media… yeah, maybe lets not have a corporate attention snare that learned from the billions invested in Las Vegas casinos for their ability to snare and direct peoples attention, keeping them going back in for more, keeping them addicted, maximally extracting wealth from them. “Social media”, such an Orwellian marketing spin term. … The ambiguity and resulting conflations help camouflage what the crooks are up to. Not all “social media” are alike. As surely we here on the fediverse know.
Children should not be on “social media”? Depends what one means… but typically I’d say children are due the same rights, and are not to be under classed. Y’know? Wanna take away children’s access to parts of the world? The parts that can be used for good too? … I just picture what that different world’s like, where Aaron Swartz gets denied access to something even younger… where that precedent goes, how much worse the dystopia can be, compared to what it already is. … Or… as you allude to… How much more fervently pursued, freedom is, by the young, the tighter they squeeze.
So much exhausting bureaucratic organisational downtime in college between ladles of info, perchance you’re fit for it when they pour it, compared to just freely swimming in the ocean of information.
It takes some kind of self motivation, be that curiosity, dedication, purpose or something else.
Also then there’s the perspectives that value education above mere preparation for employment roles.

I suspect it’d be a fun waving path drawn by their point on the political compass… not entirely in one direction consistently.
