I imagine this is the kind of sentiment that really scares the Israeli government and probably the people of Israel. Most people didn’t really care before but now everyone has an opinion on Israel and it’s generally not good. Potential political isolation aside, the social isolation’s gonna be a big problem for them too.

IIRC, that was part of the deal buying this and part of what made it so expensive and unique. News article at the time talked at length about the secrecy aspect. Kinda dumb IMO but I understand a super fan wanting to own something like this. The fact that this A hole bought it instead then immediately broke contract…
I luckily don’t have any major incidents but a couple stick out in my memory.
First time I realized an encounter was racist was my first time at a summer camp in the US around age 12.
I went with a friend to line up for the showers in the morning and it was just us two and another kid. I barely noticed he was there cause I was caught up in conversation. Not long later some other kids walk in and the waiting kid just blurts out in relief “Thank god, I was the only white guy here!” And even in my innocent, privileged little 12 year old brain I knew that was kind of fucked up.
Also had a South African girl break up with me as a teen cause her parents literally cited my nationality as an issue… While they were living in my country…

Yeah, they’re great! I remember first reading about them well probably over a decade ago. They do amazing work.
They’ve legitimately done a lot of good in the fight for freedom of/from religion and separation of church and state. I’m not sure what the argument is because even though I called it “shenanigans” their actions have had tangible effects in the fight against religious extremism so I would call it better at least then just letting the religious zealots have their way. There’s a great Stuff You Should Know podcast episode about them and some of the work they’ve done if your interested

I mean, those guys with the buckets sure are trying something, taking direct action to avoid disaster.
I mean, even in this comic, one is clearly worse, if we’re forced to choose one person to push off the boat to distract the sharks any reasonable person knows who to push. Another thing that rings true about it is that regular people are the ones who end up really putting the work in to prevent disaster.
Yeah, maybe some kind of situation where you turn it on for “training time” with access to only specified files and systems on the computer, no internet access, etc. At the same time though, I wonder how much an AI could really streamline things. Would it just pre-load my frequent files and programs? Make suggestions or reminders on tasks? I don’t think we’re anywhere near the level where it could actually be doing work for me yet.
Interesting possibilities, but I’m not sure how useful yet.

A little while ago on the TWIT podcast one of the guests, or maybe Leo himself, was talking about how this is exactly what they want out of AI, for it to be able to know how they use their computer and just streamline everything. Some people are really excited about the possibilities, and yeah, the AI needs to track whatever you’re doing to know how to help you with your work flow.
That said, I don’t want Microsoft keeping track of everything I’m doing. They’ve already shown that they’re willing to sell our data and shove ads down our throats, so as much as they say we can filter out what we don’t want tracked, I’m not inclined to trust or believe them.
Cool! I only know these guys for making the opening for the “Quick Questions” podcast, which I already thought was way more incredible than a podcast into song has a right to be. Now I really need to look into more of their stuff.
