Even a friend who is highly intelligent, doesn’t care about privacy; Because he believes he’s done nothing wrong so why would he care if the government agencies could gather all info without proper warrants. I had the conversation about the larger issue being that a government is then able to use the info to silence protest against its own actions. He assumes I’m just paranoid.

We already see the effect with google. People get AI answers (gleaned from a website) and the website never sees the traffic, nor gets to connect with that user. I think google mentioned paying website owners as a method of keeping websites afloat since not traffic to a website means no sales for the company.

See if you can find a Monsterlabo case. They went out of business, but their fanless cases are all heatsink so zero noise.

I picked up the itx model and overspecd the power supply so that the power supply fan never turns on either.

tvs with webOS or macs people turn on usually are sleeping, so that 1 second startup is not really a boot. My nixos laptop turns “on” in about 1 second if it is sleeping…but I get what you are saying, it would be amazing yo have that fast of a cold boot

I run Linux for everything at home…after W10 came out. But work issue machines are Windows. They have never had boot issues…they have a shit ton of other quirks though.

I’ve had it where my Linux machine boos too fast and I see a red mark fly by in the sea of green check marks. So then I have to go check boot log because display was too fast to read on startup

Some people get stuck on performance numbers that don’t matter. Like Linux users that say they want 5second boot time instead of 8. Why? Or a sorts car owner that never does track days but likes to tell you their car can do 240km/h…when we have 120km/h road limits.

I had an odd Secure Linux permission issue after an update so I figure WTH let’s try AI debugging.

I pasted same info into Chatgpt and Googles AI. One suggested a bunch of debug steps which made sense, but it talked ahead of itself. It would say check this, then do this, then this (assuming you had answered a Y/N scenario for step 1 already. So it was a complicated interaction, because it gets your response, formulates new plans, but assumes you also completed step 2 and 3 from before. It led itself around in circles with pages and pages of suggestions. Even though none of the steps were poor choices, they made logical sense, it just couldn’t sort it out.

The other one took my paste, asked one question, and gave me the solution. The update had stripped the SELinux rule off the file and become an undefined default.

Yeah we rented a car for a day and it was a hybrid. When on battery the noise you hear outside was driving my wife nuts inside the car. They main issue is the noise was loud and same volume if you were stopped (with no road noise to counter it) or going faster.

I doubt most people read the manual. And with all the assist tools it almost takes aware the fear of making misrakes the bad drivers should have.
