I I misspelled it, it should have been divisiveness, “a tendency to provoke dissension or discord”

deviousness, “The characteristic of being devious; sneakiness; underhandedness.”

Based on the context, I think they meant “divisiveness”, but “deviousness” probably also describes the nominations well.
