The federal Canadian government has introduced a bill that could give it new powers to end legal strikes and weaken workers’ bargaining power.

🚨The Canadian government wants to make it easier for companies to keep wages low and harder for workers to push back, by weakening the right to strike and collectively bargain.

Maybe it’s just because I live in an area where my politics don’t line up with any MP’s, but every single letter I’ve ever sent has been summarily dismissed by my local leadership. I’ve not brought up a single thing to them in 30~ years where they’ve not immediately dismissed my concern and sided with their party without any question or thought.

Maybe it’s different in areas where the local politicians have to actually compete for seats, but in my experience, they don’t give a singular fuck about anything the rabble have to say. None has ever changed their position away from the party lines, and none have ever actually answered any direct questions with direct answers.

Ugh I feel this so hard sometimes. But for me it’s gotten to a point where the alternative is to do nothing at all, and admit defeat. I have taken to actually speaking in person with my MPs rather than letter writing which seems to have some better outcomes. I live in a place where there are some very conservative people sitting in elected positions.

Yeah, that does appear to be the point. I can write a million letters and it won’t sway them one iota. So we’re already defeated, at least where I live.

I have taken to actually speaking in person with my MPs rather than letter writing which seems to have some better outcomes.

I tried this as well, but feigning listening to a constituent is all that they do, they don’t change unless the party tells them to. My local MP currently is ex military, typical conservative, doesn’t give a shit about anything that isn’t hatred of others and doing what the party tells him to do. Talking to him is akin to speaking to a brick wall, there’s no point because no one is listening.

I live in a place where there are some very conservative people sitting in elected positions.

Same, and there’s zero chance they’re ever going to do anything I want politically.

Real question, not trying to be a dick, you try and has that ever accomplished your goal even once?

Contacting them in my experience, which isn’t everyone’s experience of course, is entirely futile. MP’s seem to only exist to do the parties bidding these days. They don’t give a single fuck about us, our families, our difficulties socially, or anyone who isn’t exactly like them.

I’d honestly love to be able to speak to my MP and actually have him consider my position and actually spend critical thinking on the subject, but that isn’t the world we live in it seems.

It hasn’t achieved anything but at least I can complain.

It would be great, but I feel club’s are the only avenue to find people who would do this whether politician or not.
