And by modern I mean really modern, like within the last 5 years
Have a soft spot for old point and click games, even though most of them were already outdated by the time I got to them. I got to wondering, are there any recent good point and click games? I know they had a little resurgence in the late 2000s/2010s with Telltale, but I’m wondering if there are any newer ones?
Neofeud and it’s sequel. Strangeland, Primordia
Came here to recommend Primordia. Beautiful and touching world
I will second NORCO, its a sci-fi bayou adventure with some really touching moments
Spoilers for NORCO
“Its alright, that you wanted to is enough.”
Also I will throw in Dreams in the Witch House (2023) by Atom Brain Games, its a very entertaining point and click based on the eponymous Lovecraft story, it has some moon logic but it kind of fits with the whole “You have no clue what the hell is going on” vibe anyway. The creator is currently working on a Dunwich Horror one too.
I feel like there is a whole indie scene here, but most of the point-and-click games that I know about fall into HOG Nancy Drew style detective stuff.
I don’t remember much about it except it was x-files themd, but I recall Thimbleweed Park being fun.
I remember Broken Age starting off strong, but I feel like they cheaped out at the end when their kickstarter funding ran out.
And it’s not quite a click and point adventure, but I loved Oxenfree
Maybe the Kathy Rain games? The first one’s about 10 years old but the sequel came out in 2025.
The new Monkey Island, Return to Monkey Island or something like that.
THERE’S A NEW MONKEY ISLAND?!?

Yaaaa, it’s good! And very fan-servicy with references to the old ones.
Along those lines too, Thimbleweed Park?? Its a newish Ron Gilbert jam, very cool/weird story with overt X-Files theming. Some pretty difficult puzzles to boot. Plus a very sweary clown.
I thought NORCO was pretty good and pretty surreal too.

Kentucky Route Zero doesn’t get enough love
Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is the most modern I played but it’s eleven years old at this point. time flies
fun game tho, if you haven’t.
I play machinarium and syberia on loop and weep
The detective grimoire series is great. Newest game just came out a week ago. But i would still start with secret of the swamp
Unavowed was fun. Wadjet Eye actually only makes point and click adventure games and one or two others by them has been mentioned already. They can be a bit weirdly obsessed with the city of New York, but no one is perfect and the games tend to be fun.
Neofeud! The dev Silver Spook is really active on Fedi, too.
I’ve been sitting on Harold Halibut for a while, looks like a really wild existential adventure built out of handcrafted claymation stuff (or something like that).
I hear Esoteric Ebb is pretty good, though I haven’t played it myself. It’s supported to be some sort of cross between DnD and Disco Elysium.
The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow if you’re a stickler for the tropes of point and click.
Beyond that you’d have to compromise on the genre.
