Asylum seekers Australia sent to Nauru say they are going hungry

According to a survey of 78 asylum seekers on Nauru, 99 per cent are regularly skipping meals because they cannot not afford to buy enough food, while more than three-quarters rarely have access to free, clean drinking water.

    An absolute failure and national disgrace, this.

    The conditions exist within UN rules for us to put them on a plane if they get here and aren’t legit, which most are legit anyway. There’s no need to be cruel like this to people.

    While ever we do things like this we really disable our right to the claim of being a decent country.

      I don’t think our governments have acted ‘decently’ for a very long time. For decades, one way or another we’ve been inflicting mental and physical illness, self harm and even suicide on people who committed no crime, who just wanted to escape danger and ended up in concentration camp-type facilities. This has included thousands of children.

      Our governments have been using refugees an asylum seekers to scare others off from trying to come with little, if any regard to their human needs. If these people were Europeans I don’t think this situation would have been repeated over and over again. We have nothing to be proud of .
