It can’t be because they actually think it does a better translation than a human, because they’re always promising to do a “another editing pass”. It can’t be accessibility because screen reader translation software and learning basic katakana goes a long way to understanding menus. I don’t think it’ll amount to like any learning experience either since they’re actively not learning how to translate or even how to code necessarily.
I’ve noticed a lot of bitterness in both the people releasing them and especially the 4chan-esque treatlords who seem to get satisfaction from someone being mad about it somewhere. They seem to hate both professional and fan translators. They seem to hate anyone with any moral system. They seem to not even care about the games themselves because they never seem to have heard of the game before the LLMslop release. Very bitter, misanthropic (in the self-loving smug sense) losers, it seems.

Seriously who would trust this shit? I’ve watched a few japanese youtube vides with the auto translator on and it’s a mess.
As much as I hate to say it, I just feel like not enough actually care about the quality of the slop they consume.
I see people watching AI translated and voiced dramas and I can barely stand it. Its not always completely nonsensical, but a lot of times the translation is awkward. That’s to say nothing of the flat tones that don’t come anywhere close to conveying the emotions shown on screen. And yet people just keep on consuming.
I really don’t get what the person who did this AI translation of the game gets out of it, but I’m sure there’s plenty in it for people who post AI slop to monotized platforms like YouTube. It just makes my skin crawl seeing how little people (both AI “creators” and consumers) care.

For anime fan translation was integral to popularizing anime in the west and basically the world. Once the popularity was established the corpos came in and in the near future we will have dogshit subtitles and dubs because the corpos will use ai to cut costs. Ai is such a fucking plague
There is a big difference between people who care about surface aesthetics and people who care about substance. To the people who care about the aesthetics, something that “looks right enough” is interchangeable with anything built from the bottom up. They don’t respect labor, they don’t respect the full range of human experience, they just want superficial consumption because they have been trained for a century to think that way.
We see this in liberal vs. leftist fights, we see this in reactionaries who eat up AI slop, I would say we see this all over the place in society.
This shit sucks so fucking much. Even streaming services are doing this shit, the other day I put something on the TV because my mom hate’s silence, and the subtitles were clearly AI generated.
There’s also how AI use is fucking over modding for games. There’s a really popular “fan-dubbing” of Skyrim in Brasilian Portuguese that is just a horrible AI dubbing, but no one cares, all the comments are praising that shit. It’s literally awful, not even the tones of the voices are correct most of the time, but the majority of people just don’t care and are hostile to people criticizing it. Meanwhile, actual fan-dubbing that is absolutely incredible, like the work Street Dubbers does for fighting games here, goes basically unnoticed.
And then there is the myriad of AI generated images used in mods and the AI generated code. Just recently I remember reading about some Skyrim SKSE based mod that was AI generated and closed source, and how risky that is.

It absolutely can be that. If it makes someone feel good, or less scratched, they’ll happily split their reality in half so they can enjoy it working the first time while also frantically trying to make it work - it’s not even a lie, really, since it isn’t a fully coalesced recognition by the conscious layer (though when you’re aware of what you’re doing, and deliberately abdicating thought and control to a bleak impulse of avoidance… that just fucking sucks, really awful times, do not recommend). If you encounter resistance some quick defensive justification rises up, believed just long enough to spit at someone, but not really tethered to your beliefs in a way that risks them.
And since the internet provides both a slippery protective slime and a thick inky cloud, there’s no final collision with reality that can force you to take a coherent position, you can just shrug it off and flash some loud colours with your chromatophores until you feel better. It’s not real, it’s not external.
It is odd though. I’d think it was easier to lose faith in the God Machine than to abase yourself before it, but perhaps supplication to an all-powerful machine allows you to bask in a reflected perfection that you can’t delude yourself into possessing yourself, since you have the fatal flaw of actually existing.
