Debate begins at 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific and runs 90 minutes.
Vice Presidential debates are always tricky since nobody has voted for Vice President in living memory.
Expect Vance to attack Walz on his military service.
Expect Walz to attack Vance on the whole “immigrants eating cats and dogs” thing.
Expect Vance to attack Walz on being an assistant coach, at best.
Expect Walz to roll out “Weird!” at least once.
CBS has announced the burden of fact checking will be on the candidates themselves.

It’s crazy how… like. Normal? This debate is. I mean they obviously disagree on stuff, but there’s at least a baseline of respect here so far.

Vance lies like he breathes, but he isn’t mentally addled like Trump. He’s a threat. A long term threat.
Yup. He’s very slick and relaxed up there. Completely full of horrible ideas and deception, but he’s unfortunately doing better on the optics and sound bitey-ness.

Kind of interesting that the “get under his skin” thing is kind being deployed against Walz a bit here. He’s not Trump, so he’s not flying off the handle, but he’s losing his cool occasionally. I actually think that could work in his favor if he can channel it effectively. I think an angry Walz, within reason, could be really effective to counter robo-vance.

No kids here, but I have many nieces and nephews, and it makes me so depressed to think of a school run like a police state.
I have two kids. It’s very depressing.
It doesn’t help that new schools are built like prisons with small windows that don’t open. Meanwhile in Texas, the kids who survived their school shooting climbed out of the windows because the school was of the late 60s/early 70s design. And in Europe they were able to cut down on Covid infections at school by… opening the windows and letting in fresh air throughout the day.

Agreed, but that’s a separate issue. There are Catholic hospitals and while those hospitals exist, they have to be forced to perform abortions if the woman’s life is at risk.
Agreed. What else can they opt out of based on religion at that point? They could claim they don’t help Muslims due to religious beliefs. They could claim they won’t help women who don’t listen to their husbands.
