What people should remember is that we don’t choose between good looking and bad looking wheel covers. We choose between racing (if this thing works) and no racing.

Absolutely! I really hope they figure out a design that allows them drive in extreme wet contlditions.

Agreed. I bet this version is probably a prototype to see if they’re even remotely in the ballpark of containing spray. If it does work well then they can improve the form.

“So we need something to protect the driver’s head, let’s add some kind of brace in front of their face.”

“Ok now there’s too much water being sprayed around when it’s raining so let’s add some kind of cover over the wheels!”

WEC people be like “What the hell is wrong with these guys?”

I was under the impression that the floor/diffuser throws up as much, or more, water than the tires, so while reducing spray from the wheels would certainly help there would still be a small tsunami behind the cars on a very wet track, no?

How are they connected to the tyres? Pitstop is going to be challenging, when the teams want to switch to intermediate or soft.

Hopefully they’re not connected to the tyres else it will be very bumpy to drive

Definitely ruins the aesthetic, but if it helps with spray I guess it’s a good thing. Would make pit stops a bit harder I imagine though.
