The affiliate link for a Bambu printer at the end of the article is just sad. You (not you, OP) wrote an article about an evil company, and then choose to encourage to buy their product anyway…

We chose Bambu Lab H2S machines. We’ve been happy with the quality of the prints, but the company is reminding us of NVIDIA: The product quality is good, but the company is run by a**holes.

    I just love Steve.

    Fuck Bambu

I’ve never owned a 3d printer due to lack of space, but I’ve considered it.

But I’ll never buy from them

I was a bit conflicted with the success of Bambu because they indicated their consumer hostility somewhat early on. I’d much prefer that for a company that furthers the ecosystem and encourages openness like Prusa or Ultimaker. Bambu kept making super compelling products though. I’m hoping that they see this as an opportunity to repent and reshape the company. It feels like they’re more likely to dig in their heels. Luckily this controversy is before they could really establish monopoly like Adobe.

Fuck them. It will never come back, not where it counts.

That said, the only monopoly I truly don’t understand is Acrobat. It’s the worst piece of software I have to deal with on an enterprise level, and on its surface it seems so fucking simple to replace. Where are the competitors?

It’s a dumb joke from the ancient times.

A reddit user mistook the sub freeuse (kink porn) for free use software and without reading the sidebar or having one look at the content asked what he could (free) use to edit a PDF file. The community responded very wholesome and with actual software recommendations.

Those are the things I miss from reddit. This, and with rice, and removed Jenny and all the other weird meta stuff.

I’ve been thinking of buying. Other than creality though, what are good options

Prusa never leads the pack for innovation and their prices aren’t low. But it’s a company I feel good about supporting and they make solid machines you can actually own.

I wouldn’t even consider Creality a good option. Right now the Snapmaker U1 is in my opinion the best printer for the money that still respects the user. It’s not perfect, and I don’t think anyone has matched Bambu in terms of out of the box experience and software integration, but I’m not aware of any toolchanger that can keep up for the price. It’s easy to flash custom firmware and while they took a little while to publish their source code, they have done so as promised/required.
