Schumer: “Trump is running away from the negotiating table”
Jeffries: “Trump Always Chickens Out”
I cannot emphasize enough what losers these two are. Trump isn’t running away from anything, you muppets. He thinks you’ll chicken out and pass their budget bill without restrictions because you guys are the ones who always chicken out when there’s even a modicum of risk. Schumer was already publicly ruminating on voting for it without getting anything! And here’s what the Confederates will do now if you actually shut down the government: they’ll increase their demands further and demand you crawl to them apologetically for going against them.
Get out of politics, both of you. Please.
Schumer was already publicly ruminating on voting for it without getting anything!
That’s absolutely his style
I figure at some point they’ll just stagger what gets shut down, so everyone eventually gets fatigue trying to track if they’ll be working and getting paid out of a pool of 50+ different shutdown deadlines with vague descriptions of who is impacted and who isnt.
I don’t get it. A story that is 100% supposed to be a win for democrats. Something that will get liberals working together and motivated. Something that will get republicans unmotivated and tank Trump’s approval ratings even more. Schumer snd Jeffries take the right path in actually shit talking Trump to further antagonize them.
And this is the top comment? To bash the democrats?
Let me break it down.
Using their only real leverage to extract some concessions: good.
Messaging like they’re desperados in a gunfight with Trump when he barely remembers their names, instead of using the moment to effectively communicate to voters a narrow pro-worker agenda guided by deep principles and not data firm triangulated bullet points: bad.
Publicly talking about giving up before they get anything at all, because they have no spine: bad.
Not publicly talking about doing whatever it takes, and instead trying to approach Trump and radiating weakness the entire time they do it: bad.
Not making Trump send his designated negotiator to come to them, like someone with leverage does: bad.
Inevitably folding before they get anything of substance: bad.
Do you remember when Democrats briefly tried to message to the youths on social media and recorded that terrible “choose your fighter” montage because video games, and all it served to do was communicate how deeply out of touch they are at a Pokemon Go to the polls level? They even roped AOC into it. I’m confident she thought it was a terrible idea but went along with it to make nice and maybe because she was just happy they were trying literally anything. And then it disappeared immediately because of the above and they just gave up completely after that? And now poor 110-year-old Bernie is out there trying to engage with voters practically single handedly, except when AOC joins him, while the animated corpse of Chuck Schumer imagines he’s playing 8D chess but coming across like Milton from Office Space.
Bad example, Milton basically won Office Space.
All those things are bad… in your opinion.
As was the case last time a government shutdown was talked about, Trump wants the shutdown! Using their leverage to shut the government down could be great for Trump and bad down democrats. There is a risk that you are ignoring by saying these things.
Fact is, since the last time the government shutdown was talked, Trump’s approval ratings have absolutely tanked. Would that have happened if Democrats used their power and to get some concession? It’s entirely possible Schumer made the right decision last time to not shut the government down.
Now in this case, Trump has done something that is in no way defensible and democrats should be rallying around shit talking Trump. But instead, we completely ignore Trump’s bullshit and complain about party leaders.
How about instead of complaining about Democrats not using their tiny amount of leverage that very easily could backfire, we instead do something that will hopefully result in Democrats gaining more seats and giving real leverage.
Edit: just to drive the point home, Trump was at -1 according to economists when Schumer decided not to shut the government down in March. He went down to -10 within the month. He’s at -17 today.
If the government was shut down, all bad things would be blamed on democrats and Trump would have his scape goat.

You’d be surprised how many users here were a part of the protest vote against Harris.
What’s the percentage? Since we’re guessing, I’d guess most of us did in fact hold our nose and vote for Harris, despite all of our misgivings that she’s just another corporate Democrat with no principles, incoherent strategy, and incompetent messaging.
You’d be surprised
I would not be! They probably also protest voted Biden and Clinton and Obama and somehow act like Schumer and Jeffries are the reason why democrats are toothless. And not because these “liberals” are ripping their teeth out.
I just mentioned some positive facts about Obama on lemmy.ml memes and I got called a Nazi and banned. We got flavors of liberals who hate each other when we need to be working together. It was really strange being called a liberal Nazi.
If we get hung up on every small thing we are never gonna be happy at some point you have to recognize that people have different points of view we can’t be alienating people who are on the same team…
driving wedges into cracks is 100% The Goal of many commenters I’ve seen in the political forms here
I think democrats have a disadvantage over republicans because republicans will rally around their people no matter what. All a republican has to do is say Trump good, radical left bad and they win their party
For better and worse democrats won’t do this. So the democratic politicians have to walk these tight ropes to appeal to people that are so quick to hate them. The net effect of this is democratic politicians losing votes and republicans holding strong.
I think democrats should continue to expect more from their leaders, but in some cases we need to recognize a win and let it be. Why do we need to make this issue about why democrats suck when it is clearly a Trump/Republicans issue?
that was the most gobsmackingly stupid strategy conceivable. How did it turn out?
Not exactly. The focus is on those two Democrats. They have consistently failed on this exact issue. Do we really think they’ll succeed now? No, we don’t… But look, if they make a stand, good for them!
Many of the other Democrats in Congress have a spine, and we respect them more because of it, relatively speaking.
Yes. Russian agent or not, there are many on here doing their work.
Who cares what the purpose is? The result is going to be feckless leaders being pussies. As long as those two are in charge, we’re done
it’s like a pattern
Will a shutdown stop the payments to ICE?
I don’t consider them essential.
Will the administration’s failure to negotiate lead to even fewer deportations?
Can’t stop the Gestapo!
Democrats will surprise the hell out of me if they shut down the government. I’m all for it, but no way they actually do something.
Hurting people and causing chaos isn’t a desired outcome of theirs, so shutting down the government isn’t a goal.
At a certain point it’s the government that’s hurting people and causing chaos.
i hope they shut down and never fucking come back
maybe they should shut down and see if we let them come back
Pretty sure DOGE obtained illegitimate access to the Treasury. So I bet they want a shutdown. They’ll just stop paying the Democrats and act like it’s business like usual. I mean, what’s stopping them?
Not good but about the only in strategy the left has right now is pissing off his base and pissing off the people that carry out his orders. Stopping paychecks is a pretty good way to do that.
if they want to mortally wound the USD and find out what happens i am all for it
Shutting it down will hurt red states the most.
Is this a regime worth having be able to function or participating in running? Walk away.
At the government, shuts down. I doubt that the Republicans will ever open it back up again. That will be the end of it.
