A shocking number of people believe that more people care that an animal is raised to be used for milk, when they are perfectly fine with them being raised for slaughter. If we find it morally/ethically okay to slaughter their fattened babies for veal, what makes you think people care about keeping an animal viable for milking? Is it unnatural, sure. The entire species in unnatural one could argue. If we said free the cows and did so they would just die out and be gone. Less death, less slaughter. Now are we better people afterwards? Probably. Most of the lives saved wouldn’t even be cows, it would be the lives saved by not needing mass farms to feed the cows and how many lives are lost there. Where is the line, do we say we stop with the unreasonable lives we take, and what is reasonable? Do we say it is reasonable to kill what will regrow fast enough to not be noticed by the world at large. Like the microorganisms we kill with every step? And if so… Why? The vast majority of them are what support all life on earth. Why would those lives not matter, yet a cow’s life does. How do we judge which lives are better than others. A cows existence kills a multitude of life. A cows death creates a multitude of life. Bacteria is life all around us.

I find the argument that the methane released and land use cause harm to the world to be much more graspable of a subject. Otherwise we have to explain to ourselves why humanity matters, as the world would be better off if we were gone. To the earth we aren’t “precious lives” we are a plague. So in my mind we either recognize we are trying to upkeep and reverse the status quo of the environment out of greed for the self preservation of the majority of our species, or we are just truly don’t care about the earth, and refuse to let it heal.

I’ve only ever observed them to produce noise and shit and forest destruction.
