Wow, what a surprise, the Gates-funded neoliberal dipshit has the standard bad liberal opinion on carnism: the animals’ conditions need to be slightly improved, then everything’s fine.
The video presents beak clipping as a welfare improvement
WTF?
maybe avoid the worst torture meat — at least sometimes.
Real “I’m against genocide on Tuesdays” energy
The truth is somewhere in the middle, a little a torture meat as a treat.

As long as I’ve been alive (40+ years) they’ve been talking about humane meat. And it always just needs a bit more time and support. It’s another hydrogen car or carbon capture and storage, meant to waste our time to allow another terrible industry to thrive.
meat is a little problematic. environment, animal suffering. but of course it’s not possible to not eat meat - don’t want to be an extremist. but when we do eat it, let’s enjoy the meat as much as we can. and maybe buy from nicer corporations, but no sweat
this is what i remember from their bullshit video on meat. did they make a new one?
anotha banger from KKKurzgesagt
Does anyone know ANYONE that gets most of their meat
cruelty free“humane”? I know a few dudes, enough to count on one hand, that talk up hunting or their free range purchases, but it ends up being 3 meals a month at best. Or just when they go to Burning Man.“Humane” meat is just window dressing for all but probably a very small few.
how is hunting “cruelty free”?
Sorry. I was just tired after work and used a carnist word without thinking. I edited my comment…

You’re not a vegan, [email protected]. Get the fuck out of here.
🙄
lol.
Even the hunters I know with freezers full of hunted meat buy from the store because they don’t hunt cows, chickens, lambs, etc
Ya and AFAIK hunting is incredibly expensive. It seems that dudes just pay a fuck ton of money for the license just to LARP at being self-sufficient anprim.
As an aside, one billion percent you want an organised civilisation. One does not want to make everything they need by hand. Automation and specialisation are amazing things. People think they’re smart and strong enough to grow all their food, make their clothes, build their home and ALL their furniture, defend their shit, heal their medical problems, educate their children, and entertain themselves. FFS no you are not. A lot of reactionaries are itching for this kind of world, without ever having done it for more than a weekend camping. I guarantee you that every chud dude will miss his electrified home after spending a year pooping outside and drinking untreated water.
hunting can be incredibly cost effective. at least in Canada. You pay for your license, and shot. I know a number of hunters whose first gun was a gift, so there’s a good chance, you don’t HAVE to buy a gun if you’ve got the right community. The hunters I know go to private areas where they’ve developed relationships with the owners. They’ll go for water fowl, deer, and rabbits at these usually farmers fields.
private areas where they’ve developed relationships with the owners.
??? So hunting is OKish when you’re friends with rich owners. Got it.
You do understand that animal farmers are the first people to kill predator animals, right?
Explaining how some people do it cost effectively doesn’t mean that I’m condoning it. I didn’t start explaining that with the intent of bothering people. When you’re making arguments with people it’s good to have facts on your side. Fishing and hunting can be inexpensive.
I guess your intention is good, but it’s making people uncomfortable. Also hunting for survival is not something that most people can do anymore.
Gotta say I don’t care much for reading defenses of hunting in the vegan comm.
Explaining that hunting can be cost effective doesn’t negate the cruelty of it.
I’m trying to be a chill mod, but it seems that others aren’t OK with this convo here.
@[email protected] by chance, are you vegan?
Yeah, sorry, but I see the talking point about hunting enough literally everywhere else on the internet, I don’t really want to rehash it in this explicitly vegan comm.
yes
I actually know of 1-2 families. They’re related though. They both have 1 person that’s a very avid hunter/fisher. They literally don’t buy any meat and give some away regularly. 1 of the families also has a large, but surprisingly small garden that supplies the vast majority of their vegetable intake. 1 year they even managed to go the entire year without buying any food that wasn’t cheese, bread, or condiments. (I believe they traded meat for things like eggs and honey) I understand that hunting/fishing isn’t cruelty free, but I’d rather eat an animal that wasn’t tortured its entire life. (I say this while enjoying fake steak)
I’m sure it’s possible, but only for a very limited number people. Like guys who live in Northern Finland, and have enough material means to obtain the licenses and have the leisure time to do that sort thing. I’m not trying to be combative, but I’d be shocked if those families you’re describing are anywhere close to prole.
Actually very prole. It has to do with the area that they live in. Their work also facilitates access to the private land that they use to hunt. It’s absolutely not reasonable to expect that of everyone. If everyone in the rural areas that these 2 live in did this, the entire ecosystem would collapse.
prole
access to private land
I don’t want to get pedantic, but this person isn’t solely selling their labour to survive. Also like normal people, I work 10+ hour days, 6 days a week. I don’t see that happening even if I did live next to a forest.
1 family lives by a lake with good fishing and has an estuary behind their house. They can literally fish from their back yard. They also work in ag, so that’s how they know people with land. I also work a lot of hours, and just want to sleep after work. I am lucky to get out for a hike or a paddle let alone foraging for food.

ethically-sourced meat
No such thing. Are you vegan?
Sterilize 99% of the human population, ideally at random to avoid eugenics issues.
Oh OK, you’re a month old account doing ecofascist talking points.
Sounds to me like a carnist imagining a fictional world where the fantasy of “humane” meat is possible. Let me know if I’m wrong.
The last paragraph is
Doesn’t matter, carnists love regularly consuming “vegoon bad” content
