Generated Summary:

This YouTube video analyzes Bernie Sanders’s “Fight the Oligarchy” tour, highlighting his criticisms of the wealthy and powerful influencing politics. Key points include:

  • The Tour’s Purpose: Sanders is targeting districts Biden won in 2020 but Democrats lost in 2024, aiming to regain support within the Democratic party.
  • Sanders’s Rhetoric: He strongly criticizes billionaire influence and calls for a working-class agenda, drawing large crowds at his rallies.
  • AOC’s Involvement: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is joining Sanders on the tour.
  • Criticism of Sanders: The video criticizes Sanders for not explicitly condemning the Democratic party’s ties to the oligarchy, given his past endorsements of figures like Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris, who have accepted contributions from wealthy donors.
  • The Gaza Conflict: The video discusses Sanders’s reluctance to label the situation in Gaza a genocide, despite acknowledging the horrific events. The YouTuber argues this demonstrates Sanders’s tendency to avoid strong stances on controversial issues.
  • The Incident with Supporters: The video’s main focus is on a recent incident where Sanders abruptly dismissed his own supporters who politely inquired about the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil. The YouTuber interprets this as evidence of Sanders’s true nature and his unwillingness to take strong action against injustices, even when directly confronted by his own supporters. The video includes footage of the encounter and the subsequent arrest of Khalil, highlighting the alleged lack of resistance during the arrest.
  • Conclusion: The YouTuber concludes that Sanders’s actions demonstrate a pattern of avoiding strong stances and ultimately serving to maintain the status quo rather than enacting significant change. The video suggests Sanders is more focused on maintaining the Democratic party’s power base than on truly challenging the oligarchy.

Wow, you surprised me by replying!

I don’t know if the criticism is accurate, and I don’t care.

Ah, now it makes sense why you have no retorts with substance for what Sabby points out: the major issues with Bernie on Mamud Khalil, his continued support for the oligarchy, the duopoly, and the Palestine genocide.

It is expected, though, when you criticize Bernie from the left.

Smearing is the go-to for those on the right of Bernie.

    All is well, peace!

Until all of us, if every creed and none, every political leaning and none, learn to look in the mirror and do the painful, gross, stinky shadow work of recognizing what we see in others as aspects of us we hide from ourselves and work to correct that and heal our wounds, rather than wounding others, it will continue to get worse, until we annihilate ourselves and a bunch of other species.

Yes, we always need to work on ourselves and never stop learning and fighting our own biases, especially when talking to people that don’t think like we do.

Thanks for those words and for the reminder!

Thanks so much. It was more in general to all of us, rather than you, specifically. Your comment just gave opening for the reply. I do so much appreciate the tiresome thankless work you do, and the slings and arrows that accompany it. You have inspired and succored my own inspiration, when it flags. Onward! ✊*

It’s a complete garbage video at the surface level. No strong stances?

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) is bringing six measures, known as the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval, to the Senate floor for a vote. The bills, also backed by Sens. Peter Welch (D-Vermont), Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), would block the sales of six different kinds of weapons to Israel, worth a total of $20 billion.

That YouTuber has zero credibility. Nobody will ever care what they say. We’re never going to engage with them, fact check them, or anything because it’s so transparently clickbait trash that seeing any part of it makes our lives worse.

Thanks for the reply and for linking (not the issue being brought up, link is offtopic), but the major issue we have with Bernie is his cowardice in not calling what is happening in Palestine a genocide.

It’s a complete garbage video at the surface level. No strong stances?

The video addresses this and states it in a simple manner.

All issues with Bernie are addressed in calling him out specifically with a record of where he continues to fail the working class.

Again, this is criticism from the left of Bernie, not the right, so it is understandable why there is confusion.

That’s super dumb. The link is not off topic, he was trying to stop arms shipments to Israel. He’s called it ethnic cleansing. Not using a specific word is irrelevant, because he’s repeatedly and strongly doing the work to help those people.

Not using a specific word is irrelevant

It seems we will not agree on this issue.

Being direct and truthfully calling what is happening in Palestine is a major deal for those that know and have seen the videos coming out of Palestine and the IDF.

Again, Sabby explains this in simple-to-understand points while addressing the reasons for her views and continued criticisms of Bernie on these specific issues.

Spoiler: Bernie is again and again and again just pushing people back to the status quo of the duopoly, which Sabby addresses at the end of the video.

Ok, I’m going to trust him to do what he’s doing. He’s been talking about starving children, and blocked aid. That’s specific and actionable, like the rest of what he’s saying. Saby needs to shut up and open a book sometime.

People that volunteered and helped him in 2016 and 2020 have sadly learned the extent of his “radical” policies and how far he is willing to fight.

Your point of view is understandable if you are to the right of Bernie Sanders. I and Sabby are criticizing him from his left.

I hope this helps you understand the major differences in worldviews.

FYI: Always be critical of people with power and influence, especially politicians and governments, since bribery (lobbying) is legal and most are bought and paid for by the owner class (the oligarchy and corporations).

P.S. Being an apologist and celebrity-worshipping does not help push the causes of the working class; it only hinders them and helps keep the status quo.

Edit: improved wording, legalized bribery -> bribery (lobbying), celebrity worshipping -> celebrity-worshipping

Fake leftist sowing division, using a purity test to frustrate real solidarity

You are projecting hard, a pretender, a fake, frivolous, and impotent.

                    Fake leftist

                    I think you are confused.

We are to the left of Bernie; you are to his right.

                    purity test

“People that volunteered and helped him in 2016 and 2020 have sadly learned the extent of his ‘radical’ policies and how far he is willing to fight.”

We have experiences about how far he is willing to fight the status quo and to truly address working-class struggles; the video points this out in a simple-to-understand manner with receipts.

Again, if you understand this, you would know that we are to the left of Bernie Sanders; it is not that hard to figure out.

                    Again:

P.S. Being an apologist and celebrity-worshipping does not help push the causes of the working class; it only hinders them and helps keep the status quo.

You reminded me of this song:

                    [Song] Phil Ochs - Love Me I’m A Liberal [04:39 | Country, Satire, Politics, Folk | https://youtu.be/0nFvhhCulaw][1]

“Love Me, I’m A Liberal,” is a criticism of liberals, as liberals often superficially support things such as civil rights to appear compassionate, but actually reject any action that would upset the status quo. This song is Phil Ochs’ demonstration of his hatred of the liberals, who he views as hypocritical.

In the final verse, the liberal narrator of the song establishes he used to be a socialist, but has now “grown older and wiser”, and rejected more radical left-wing politics in favor of liberalism. Liberalism is a political disposition which is opposed to, and not synonymous with, Leftism (socialism, communism, etc). The idea that liberalism is synonymous with Leftism is a recent phenomenon more or less specific to mainstream US politics since the widespread suppression of the radical Left in the 70s and 80s (as well as the spread of the global “neoliberal consensus” since the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the German Democratic Republic, and the capitalist reforms of China under Deng Xiaoping).

Essentially, the song is a critique of liberalism from a leftist perspective, using the satirized view point of a 60’s American liberal.

Jello Biafra and Mojo Nixon did a 90’s-themed updated version that can be found here.

It’s also worth noting that the tune of this song incorporates parts of the melody for the traditional song ‘Rosin the Bow.’ You can hear it very clearly in the first three lines of every verse.[2]
